Portfolio Thinking launches adviser research platform

Portfolio Thinking Edge uses AI and fund research to improve client outcomes

Ex-Morningstar CIO Dan Kemp and ex-Allianz Global Managing Director Neil Brown have announced the launch of Portfolio Thinking Edge, their new institutional investment research and communications platform for advice firms.

Edge relies on a fundamental research capability, with 10-year expected returns for bond and equity markets, along with a distribution of plausible outcomes and a thesis behind the central number. Alongside this are risk-graded model portfolios, allowing firms to upload existing models into Edge and compare how the two portfolios would have behaved in real historical events.

Using Edge and this research, advice firms can generate client updates in their own style and deliver them on a regular basis.

The new platform also uses Agentic AI to help it deliver its capabilities, including answering questions about portfolios, funds and return expectations, with compliance guidelines built in.

Kemp (pictured), co-founder of Portfolio Thinking, said: “Advice firms are not short of investment options or content.

“They are short of time, and curating someone else’s material takes more of it than anyone expects,” he continued. “Edge gives a firm research built to the standard I applied to institutional portfolios, and lets it publish that research in its own words the same afternoon.”

Co-founder Neil Brown added: “We set up Portfolio Thinking to build something useful for advice firms, and we were always open-minded about what that would look like.

“Edge meets a clear need for institutional-grade investment research, which advisers can access and share in a digestible and highly customisable way.”
