US in the news: Morgan Stanley names co-presidents

A round-up of people moves and M&A deals across North America

Morgan Stanley

The US banking giant has promoted Ted Pick and Andy Saperstein as co-presidents.

Pick leads Morgan Stanley’s institutional securities business and will now also be responsible for Morgan Stanley’s international operations and become the co-head of firm strategy and execution.

Saperstein leads Morgan Stanley’s wealth management business and will now be responsible for all wealth management channels, including financial advisers, E*TRADE and Morgan Stanley at Work.

He will also assume responsibility for marketing globally.

Dan Simkowitz, the head of investment management, will in addition be co-head of firm strategy and execution.

Jonathan Pruzan, currently chief financial officer, will become chief operating officer.

Sharon Yeshaya, currently the head of investor relations, will replace Pruzan as chief financial officer.

Shelley O’Connor, who currently leads Morgan Stanley’s US banks, will become a vice chairman of Morgan Stanley and head of external affairs.

Mike Pizzi will become head of US banks and will report to Pruzan.

The Mather Group

The wealth management firm has named Joan Rockey as chief financial officer.

Rockey joins TMG from Cerity Partners, where she was a partner and chief financial officer for the past year.

BNY Mellon Wealth Management

The wealth manager has hired Chad Van Den Top as senior client strategist.

He joins BNY Mellon Wealth Management from Northern Trust, where he was a wealth strategist in San Francisco.

UBS Private Wealth Management

Financial advisers John Farrell and Joel East have joined the firm in Fort Worth, Texas.

They join UBS as a team after having been advisers at JP Morgan’s Private Bank.

Rockefeller Capital Management

The financial services firm has hired Knowlton, Knowlton, & Larsen as its first private wealth team to be headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts.

Knowlton, Knowlton, & Larsen includes:

  • Laurence Knowlton, managing director and private wealth adviser;
  • Griffin Knowlton, senior vice president and private wealth adviser; and
  • Wyatt Larsen, managing director and private wealth adviser.

The group also includes Jennifer Pearson, vice president and private wealth analyst, and Sophia Morgan, vice president and private wealth analyst.

The team joins from UBS.

Wilmington Trust

Robert Bridges Jr has been promoted to managing director and senior investment adviser.

Previously, he was a senior investment adviser in Wilmington Trust’s New York City office.

M&A

Edelman Financial Engines

The independent financial planning and investment management firm has acquired Viridian Advisors for an undisclosed sum.

The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2021.

Based in Bothell, Washington, Viridian manages over $846m (£600m, €694m) for more than 800 clients.

Adriel Tam, chief executive of Viridian Advisors will join Edelman Financial Engines as the head of its tax practice.
