US in the news: Mariner Wealth buys advice network

Mariner Wealth Advisors

Kansas-based Mariner has acquired The Financial Services Network.

Network provides admin, consulting, compliance and operational services to over 400 independent financial advisers.

The deal will see Mariner affiliate firm and platform services provider, Mariner Platform Solutions, expand its offering to advisers.

At completion, Network will rebrand as Mariner Advisor Network.

The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Focus Financial Partners

The partnership of independent, fiduciary wealth firms has entered into an agreement with Strategic Capital Advisers.

The Denver, Colorado-based SEC-registered investment adviser will join Focus partner company Transform Wealth for an undisclosed sum.

The deal is expected to close in the second half of 2022.

Informed Family Financial Services

Pennsylvania financial planning and wealth management business Informed Family has bought Strategic Wealth Advisory, for an undisclosed sum.

The two firms will merge under the Informed Family brand, and the deal will add two additional staff members and two offices to the group.

People Moves

Raymond James

David Baland and Liatriz Levy have joined the firm’s independent adviser channel, Raymond James Financial Services (RJFS).

They are based in Albuquerque, New Mexico and join from Concurrent Advisors, and adviser-owned partnership of independent practices affiliated with RJFS as Old Town Advisors.

The team was previously linked to Merrill Lynch where they managed $300m (£251m, €296m) in client assets.

Additionally, Fred Fryer has also joined RJFS in Arkansas alongside Fryer Wealth Planning client service associates Melissa Koenig and Rebecca Fritz.

Fryer was previously affiliated with Edward Jones where he managed around $195m in client assets.

BNY Mellon Wealth Management

BNY Mellon WM also made a double hire.

Brian Dlug has taken on the role of head of deposits in New York. He succeeds Lynne Sawyer who now serves as chief operating officer for the business. Dlug spent the last 12 years at Morgan Stanley where he most recently worked as executive director, head of cash management and bank accounts.

In Boston, Rob Zaccardi has been hired as senior client strategist. He was at JP Morgan Private Bank where he spent over 12 years. In his last role he served as executive director.

Kingswood

The network of US wealth management firms has recruited eight financial advisers who collectively oversee around $355m in client assets.

They are: Conrad Branson, Jason Nickels and Regina Faison in California; Debinder Deshmukh, Kalyan Kavili and Krishna Grandi in Florida; and Daniel Spagnolo and William Bianchi in New York.

UBS Private Wealth Management

Lauren Kinch and Andrew Baumgartner have joined UBS PWM in San Francisco.

They will partner with UBS advisers Chris Clifford and Kate Kennedy to form Labyrinth Wealth Advisors, which will serve ultra-high net worth clients in Silicon Valley and the broader Bay Area.

Kinch and Baumgartner were previously at BNY Mellon WM where they spent the last five years advising clients and developing the firm’s wealth management platform offering.

Cary Street Partners

The Virginia-based wealth and investment management business named Ian Holder as a financial adviser, managing director and branch office manager.

He was at Merrill Lynch where he spent the last 14 years serving wealth management clients.

Bordeaux Wealth Advisors

The California-headquartered advice firm had made several hires to support its surge in clients.

Miles Amodeo, Justin Dime and Yanxiao Li have taken on the roles of associate wealth advisors; while John Tashjian has become a client service associate and Sean van der Wal has been recruited as business development officer.

They will be based in the company’s Seattle and Silicon Valley offices.

NewEdge Wealth

The registered investment advisory firm specialising in serving UHNW, family office and institutional clients in Connecticut has bolstered its business development team.

Jason Catlender joins as principal within the business development division where he will work with prospective advisers who want to join the business.

He previously held several vice presidential roles at LPL Financial, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch and JP Morgan.
