US in the news: Mariner Wealth Advisors buys Michigan firm

Mariner Wealth Advisors

The wealth advisory firm has acquired Michigan-based Emerson Wealth for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition further bolsters its presence in the Midwest, securing its second office in the greater Detroit area.

Emerson Wealth was founded over 30 years ago by Michael Emerson and advises 159 clients.

Focus Financial Partners

Focus partner firm Buckingham Strategic Wealth has bought California-based Bergman Investment Management for an undisclosed sum.

Founded by Doug Bergman in 1995, the firm provides investment advice to predominantly high net worth individuals and families.

Bergman will continue to be a client firm of Loring Ward, now a part of Buckingham Strategic Partners, Buckingham’s affiliated wealth platform, until the transaction closes.

In other news, fellow Focus Financial partner firm XML Financial Group has bought Pennsylvania-based Samson Wealth Management Group for an undisclosed sum.

Mark Samson founded Samson Wealth Management in 2012 to provide wealth and investment management services to high net worth individuals and families located across the country.

He will join XML’s leadership team.

People moves

NewEdge Wealth

The registered investment adviser (RIA) firm has appointed Cameron Dawson as its first chief investment officer (CIO).
Prior to joining NewEdge Wealth, she was chief market strategist at Fieldpoint Private Securities.

SVB Private

Jon Kropf has joined the business as head of adviser business development.

He most recently served as senior vice president at First Republic, where he led adviser hiring across the US for Private Wealth Management.

Wilmington Trust

The wealth management service provider has named Laura Phillips as a senior wealth adviser.

She will be based in the firm’s North Palm Beach, Florida office.

Brainvest Wealth Management

The firm has bolstered its Miami office with the hires of Elenice Dobrikow as chief operating officer and Nick Baron as a senior investment specialist.

Dobrikow was most recently a vice president at Sunstate Bank.

Baron joins Brainvest from JP Morgan Private Bank.

BNY Mellon Wealth Management

Erica Lord has been named as chief fiduciary officer, succeeding Joe Samulski, who is retiring from the firm.

Lord joins from Northern Trust, where she was chief fiduciary officer of its global family and private investment offices.

Raymond James

Financial adviser Dave Sprenkle has been hired the wealth firm’s office in York, Pennsylvania.

Operating as Sprenkle Wealth Management, Sprenkle is joined by senior client service manager Theresa Lehigh.

They were previously affiliated with Janney Montgomery Scott.

Fiduciary Trust International

The global wealth manager and wholly-owned subsidiary of Franklin Templeton has named M Lisa Parry Howard as trust counsel based in its Delaware office.

Howard joins Fiduciary Trust International from the Wilmington Trust arm of M&T Bank, where she served as a trust administration contract attorney, fiduciary administrator, and risk and corporate governance analyst.
