US in the news: Janney names head of wealth management

People moves

Janney Montgomery Scott

The financial services firm has named John Yackel as executive vice president and head of wealth management.

Prior to joining Janney, Yackel was a co-founder and chief executive of Trucendent, a platform that simplifies estate planning and trust transfer for advisors, their clients, attorneys, and trust administrators.

He succeeds Kevin Reed who has assumed leadership of Janney’s private client group after eight years leading the wealth management group.

Withers

The international law firm has bolstered its tax operation in Texas with the addition of the Dossey & Jones team, based in the Houston area.

Dossey & Jones has been representing high net worth clients in the Houston area since 1972 and partner Jim Dossey is the third generation of his family to work at the firm.

Jim Dossey co-manages the practice with Paige Jones, offering clients advice on estate and tax planning, probate matters and corporate and property transactions.

The team also includes senior associate Philip Black and associate Esteban Martinez.

Withers first launched its Texas practice in 2021, offering tax, estate and trust planning services to clients resident in the state, as well as to families and businesses who are relocating to Texas from within or outside the US.

Cyndeo Wealth Partners

Richard Thomas Havard and Michael Scott Crouch have joined the firm as vice presidents.

They are accompanied by Arlene Alexander, senior client relationship manager. They will all operate remotely and report in to Cyndeo’s headquarters in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Previously, Havard and Crouch were both senior financial advisers at Merrill Lynch.

Raymond James

Financial adviser Michael Mauseth has joined the Bell Wealth Advisors team in its Juneau, Alaska office.

Mauseth was previously affiliated with Wells Fargo.

Also, Raymond James hired financial adviser Kerri Willoughby.

Willoughby is joined at her practice, Willoughby Wealth Partners, by office manager Katherine Erickson. Willoughby was formerly affiliated with Edward Jones.

M&A

Emigrant Partners

The wealth and asset management investor has made a minority investment in advice firms FL Putnam Investment Management and Dakota Wealth Management.

FL Putnam is based in Wellesley, Massachusetts. It currently oversees $6bn (£5bn, €5.7bn) in assets.

Dakota WM is based in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and has over $2.5bn assets under management across more than 1,700 clients.

The financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Prime Capital Investment Advisors (PCIA)

The advice firm has bought Liberty Wealth Advisors and Stonnington Group for an undisclosed sum.

Liberty Wealth Advisors is led by chairman and chief executive James Gladney.

In addition to Gladney, 14 other employees across nine states will be joining the PCIA family. This includes five advisers, with a combined total of approximately 725 clients.

Stonnington Group is led by Nick Stonnington, president and adviser. Nick Stonnington is joined by four additional employees, including one adviser, that will continue to serve their 275 clients in partnership with PCIA.

Alera Group

The wealth manager has bought Virginia Beach-based The Ascent Group and affiliated companies for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition adds assets under management to two Alera Group divisions: approximately $1.5bn within Alera Group Wealth Services’ registered investment adviser (RIA) business and $1.3bn within Alera Group Retirement Plan Services.

The Ascent Group’s affiliated companies include Virginia-based Summit Group, led by Jeff Silverman, and Pennsylvania-based Walsh & Nicholson Financial Group, led by Brian Walsh.

Overall, The Ascent Group employs 42 associates including 15 financial advisers.
