US in the news: Financial services firm bolsters insurance arm

A round up of the latest people moves and M&A deals in North America

People moves

FBL Financial Group

Kelli Eddy will join FBL as chief operating officer of life companies in mid-August.

She will succeed Raymond Wasilewski, who plans to retire at the end of 2019.

In this role, Eddy will be a member of FBL’s management team and have overall responsibility for the operations of subsidiary Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company.

She most recently served as senior vice president of life operations for Voya Financial where she was responsible for underwriting, new business, risk management, strategy and execution.

UBS Private Wealth Management

Mariia Eroshin has joined the global wealth firm as a financial adviser and senior vice president of wealth management in San Francisco.

Eroshin was previously senior portfolio manager at US Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management.

The company has also hired Kevin Roth as a financial adviser and senior vice president of wealth management in New York.

For the past 19 years, Roth has worked with ultra-high net worth (UHNW) clients.

He was previously at HSBC Private Bank.

AE Wealth Management

The firm has hired Richelle Stoneking as director of investment technology and solutions.

In this role, Stoneking will identify and deliver technology solutions for AE Wealth’s investment platform.

She joins AE Wealth from fellow advisory firm Creative Planning.

Wedbush Securities

The financial services group has named Frank Story as managing director and New York tri-state market manager.

Story will focus on building the firm’s wealth management business in the region.

He is based in its New York City office and reports to executive vice president and head of wealth management Chris Mone.

Prior to Wedbush, Story was at Stifel, where he served as branch manager for the past 15 years.

Steward Partners Global Advisory

Raymond James Financial Services’ partner firm has hired Amy Sabin as managing director and wealth manager based in Dallas, Texas.

Sabin joins from JP Morgan Securities, the wealth management division of JP Morgan.

M&A

 

Wealth Enhancement Group

The independent wealth management firm will acquire AEPG Wealth Strategies, a registered investment adviser (RIA) business based in New Jersey.

The deal is the firm’s 13th acquisition over the past six years, and marks Wealth Enhancement Group’s first office in New Jersey.

AEPG has 27 employees and serves more than 600 advisory and retirement plan clients.

The firm offers planning and advisory services to individuals and families; including retirement planning, education planning, investment management, cash flow management and tax strategies.

As part of the deal, Steven Kaye, chief executive and founder of AEPG, will continue to lead the firm’s team as senior vice president and managing director at Wealth Enhancement Group.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mercer Global Advisors

It has acquired Physicians Financial Advisors (PFA), a boutique RIA located in California.

The firm offers the medical community wealth management services.

PFA’s office will integrate into Mercer Advisors’ existing Newport Beach, California office.

The deal brings Mercer Advisors total offices to 42, and increases its assets under management to over $16bn.

PFA was founded by president Dr Erik Thurner, who as physician established a niche clientele of colleagues.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
