Bolton-based Markland Hill Wealth has acquired independent financial advice firm Smith Law & Shepherds IFA (SLS) for an undisclosed sum.

The combined company will trade under the Markland Hill Wealth brand.

The management team made up by Dan Clough and Tom Smith from SLS, and Barrie Dawson and David Dawson from Markland Hill Wealth will drive the business forward.

The combined business has assets under management of over £250m ($338m, €299m) with bases in Liverpool, Bolton, Lancaster and Watford.

David Atherton, chairman of Markland Hill Wealth, said in a statement: “This is an exciting time for Markland Hill Wealth, it’s clients and staff alike. In these uncertain times, the need for independent regulated financial advice has never been more important.

“Natural economies of scale will release further funds and we intend to use these for further growth and ever improving client attention.”
