Treasury seeks permanent chair and tax director for OTS

The UK Treasury is seeking a permanent chair and tax director for the Office of Tax Simplification.

The role of the chair will be to lead the OTS’s work in providing independent advice to the Chancellor on simplifying the UK tax system. The OTS was established by the Chancellor and Exchequer Secretary in July last year.

In addition, the chair will be expected to lead the OTS board meetings and its engagement with Treasury ministers. The OTS said its board shapes the strategy and priorities of the organisation, deciding on proposals for its reviews of the tax system and agrees key recommendations in its reports. It added that the position is open to outstanding leaders from a range of backgrounds including commercial, public or voluntary sectors.

Meanwhile the OTS said the tax director will provide the “intellectual leadership and guidance” for the Office. It said applicants must be a leading tax professional with extensive technical understanding of business and personal tax, an appreciation of the operational implications of tax policy change and an understanding of the tradeoffs involved in tax policy making.

The deadline for applications is Friday 1 July 2011. To find out more and to apply for either role visit www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/ots
