The head of the UAE has confirmed that the country will start accepting long-term visa applications from investors, entrepreneurs and innovators.
The move was made public in a tweet from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, written in English and Arabic, which reads: “The UAE’s residency departments will start receiving applications. The UAE will remain a global incubator for talents and a permanent destination for pioneers.”
The change was first announced in May 2018, when the Sheikh directed his cabinet to implement a resolution by the end of the year to allow talented specialists in the medical, scientific, research and technical fields to say in the country for up to 10 years.
Keeping Dubai attractive
The decision was welcomed by the chief executive of financial advisory firm AES International, Sam Instone, who believes it will increase Dubai’s attractiveness to foreigners.
“Long-term visas for investors, entrepreneurs and other talents will ensure Dubai remains a pioneering city,” he said.
“The quality of life, stability and commercial environment make this city an expat destination for professionals. Whatever life stage people are at – Dubai continues to present great opportunities to those bold enough to try it out.”
