Meanwhile, Duncan Wattam has been appointed chief financial officer for the private client division. He replaces Julian Davies, who has moved from Jersey to Standard Bank’s Brazil office to take over as chief operating officer for the Americas.

Adam Hunt, head of high net worth clients for Standard Bank, said: “We are currently recruiting more senior relationship managers to look after our growing portfolio of clients in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. We remain committed to developing the skills and careers of each existing staff member as we recognise that our success is dependent on the dedication and professionalism of our staff.”

Speaking of Wattam’s promotion, Ian Gibson, head of Standard Bank private clients, added:  “With Duncan on board as CFO we are well equipped to manage the ongoing expansion of our wealth business. In recent years we have developed our private client capability and with the group’s focus on emerging markets, we are predicting strong growth during  2010.”
