Currently at £159m, the fund has been managed by the firm’s strategic partner, the Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, since October 2010.

The currency is in sterling-yen and available for institutional, retail and platform share classes.

The latest offering aims to give investors flexibility to access the Japanese equity market in local currency terms, and mitigate the risk of sterling-yen exchange rate volatility.

“This is an exciting development for investors in our Japanese Equity Growth Fund and indeed for our UK mutual fund range as a whole,” said Jacqueline Lowe, head of UK wholesale business.

She added that there were ‘no imminent plans’ to launch additional hedged share classes in the firm’s UK mutual fund range but said she would not rule out the possibility in the future.
