Harvey’s appointment is effective from March 2018.

He replaces Nigel Preston who will return to St James’s Place (SJP) UK, having led the Singapore business since 2014. He has held the role of chief executive of Singapore since 2015.

A Singapore citizen, Harvey has worked in the financial services sector for almost 30 years, 20 of which have been in Asia.

He has been at the helm of Nexus since 2015, when the Middle East-headquartered advisory group took over around 160 tied agents working for Zurich after the Swiss insurer pulled out of Singapore’s life sector.

Harvey worked for Axa for 18 years and previously held the positions of chief executive Axa Life Singapore and regional chief executive for IPAC Wealth Management Asia.

Further hires

The addition of Harvey follows swiftly on the heels SJP Singapore nabbing two senior people from The Fry Group.

On 9 January, it was announced that Miles Gooseman and Martin Rimmer had joined SJP’s partnership team in the city-state.

Gooseman, who had been at The Fry Group since April 2011, was a senior financial consultant operating out of the Singapore office. Rimmer, who joined the financial advice business in 1999, was head of tax for Asia Pacific.

They brought with them more than 30 years of combined experience in international financial planning and wealth management.

Grow in target markets

Mike Gravestock, international partnership director, said: “Firstly, I would like to thank Nigel for all his hard work and commitment in building a strong and sustainable St James’s Place business in Singapore and for the significant contribution he has made in helping SJP Asia achieve the success it has experienced to date. Nigel’s contribution has been invaluable in building the foundations for long-term success.

“Gary’s forthcoming appointment is another positive development for SJP Asia as we continue to grow our expertise across our Asia target markets. Gary’s knowledge of the financial services sector in Asia will provide additional focus and direction, helping us further understand and serve the advisory needs of its local and expatriate communities. I am delighted that Gary has accepted our offer to join St James’s Place.”
