Quilter Cheviot has hired six people as part of a 12-month investment management internship programme.

The programme aims to increase diversity within the industry and create job opportunities for the next generation of wealth management talent, by providing support, guidance and experience of working within the investment management industry.

Some four interns will be based at its London office and two at its Birmingham office. The firm reported that it had received more than 700 applications for the posts.

University degrees were not a requirement to join the programme. Interns will instead study for the Level 3 Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) exam.

They will work across different areas of the business, learning about research, investment risk, responsible investment, marketing, operations, sales and distribution.

Andrew McGlone, chief executive of Quilter Cheviot, said: “Having joined this business as a trainee nearly 30 years ago, I am particularly pleased to introduce our intern programme, which will provide committed and talented individuals from all backgrounds with the chance to break into the wealth management industry.

“Our objective is to help develop the skills, knowledge and connections that the next generation needs to succeed in this field; and to introduce fresh perspectives and diversity of thought and ideas to our business.”
