Qatar authority hires former Merrill Lynch director as COO

Qatar regulator names Ian Chivers, a former Merrill Lynch director, its new chief operating officer.

As COO, Chivers will be responsible for the overall operational effectiveness of the Regulatory Authority. 

In a statement on its website announcing the appointment, the QFC authority did not say who Chivers is succeeding in the role, or why that person had left.

Chivers holds an economics degree from the University of Reading in the UK and is a Chartered Management Accountant and an Associate Member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.

At Merrill Lynch Chivers’s roles included chief administrative officer  (CAO) for the EMEA Region, CAO for Global Equity Markets, chief operating officer for EMEA Equity Markets, and CAO for Global Investment Banking.  

Located in Doha, the capital city of Qatar, the Qatar Financial Centre opened its doors on 1 May 2005 to serve the financial needs of the country, one of the world’s wealthiest in per-capita terms.
