Wealth manager hires group CFO, as investment platform names sales director

UBS

The Swiss wealth manager has named Sarah Youngwood as its group chief financial officer.

Youngwood been chief financial officer of JPMorgan Chase’s consumer and community banking line of business since 2016

She will take over from Kirt Gardner in May after he stepped down from the role to pursue other opportuinties.

Gardner joined UBS in 2013 and was named group chief financial officer in January 2016.

Novia Global

The international investment platform has named Chris Skelhorn as sales director.

He has over thirty years of sales experience – his previous roles have included senior sales positions at Aviva and Zurich before joining Novia Financial in 2009.

Skelhorn joined Novia Global in 2015.

Hargreaves Lansdown

Amy Stirling has been named as chief financial to succeed Philip Johnson. She will also join the board of Hargreaves Lansdown as an executive director.

She is currently chief financial officer of the Virgin Group and will join Hargreaves Lansdown on 21 February 2022.

Philip Johnson announced on 29 July 2021 his intention to step down from the company and will step down from the board on 31 January 2022.

He will remain available to assist with an orderly handover of responsibilities until he leaves Hargreaves Lansdown on 31 May 2022.

AJ Bell

The UK investment platforms has appointed Peter Birch as chief financial officer, effective 1 July 2022.

Birch joins AJ Bell from Deloitte, where he is currently a financial services audit and assurance partner.

He will replace Michael Summersgill, who was appointed to the position of deputy chief executive.

Summersgill will continue to undertake the duties of chief financial officer until Birch joins the company.

Aegon

The Dutch-headquartered life insurer has named Astrid Jäkel as chief risk officer, effective 1 March 2022.

Jäkel joins Aegon Oliver Wyman, where she has been a partner in the European insurance and asset management practice,

She replaces Allegra van Hövell-Patrizi, who was appointed chief executive of Aegon the Netherlands in June 2021.

Value Partners

James Ong has been appointed managing director, head of southeast Asia and chief executive of Singapore at the asset management.

Most recently, Ong was managing director and head of southeast Asia at State Street Global Advisors.

Rothschild & Co

The financial services firm has named Paola Volponi as head of wealth management in Italy.

Volponi joins from UBS wealth Management, where she was managing director, segment head global financial intermediaries and head of ultra-high net worth Italy.

Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management

The UK wealth operation of Canaccord Genuity has named Jeremy Hippolite as head of professional services – sales.

Most recently, he worked at Charles Stanley as head of asset management development.

Brown Shipley

The Quintet Private Bank subsidiary has appointed Georgina Breeze as a client adviser at its Manchester office.

Breeze joins from Barclays Wealth and Investment Management.

Boston Multi Family Office

The firm has promoted Siôn Roberts to a director of its Isle of Man office.

He was previously head of accounting and tax.

Natixis Investment Managers

The asset manager has appointed Emily Askham as chief marketing officer for international.

She will join Natixis IM in an expanded role and will be responsible for both institutional as well as wholesale and retail marketing.

Farrer & Co

Edward Floyd will be joining the law firm’s family team as a partner on 6 December 2021.

He joins from Penningtons Manches Cooper, where he was a partner in the London office.

Tilney Smith & Williamson

The wealth management firm has hired Neil Sparkes as a financial planner.

He joins from Francis Clark Financial Planning, where he worked initially as a paraplanner and latterly a financial planner.

Deutsche Bank

The banking group has expanded its wealth management team in India with a team of hires.

It has hired more than 15 bankers and product professionals across various segments to join the business in 2021 and early 2022.

Rajasekar Ayyalu joins as director in Chennai from Julius Baer, where he was executive director.

Jai Bhatia, Sanyam Sharma, Anjali Vashisth and Manish Lalwani also join as vice-presidents and relationship managers.

Waverton Investment Management

The UK firm has hired Simon Laing as a portfolio manager and director.

He was previously at Investec.

Tom Saville and Peter Grant have also been named as portfolio managers, who join from Ruffer and Smith & Williamson, respectively.

Tenet Group

The financial adviser support network has named Julie Woolmer as compliance operations director.

Woolmer joins from Quilter Financial Planning, where she held the role of head of supervision and oversight since 2018.

Armstrong Watson

The UK firm has further strengthened its financial planning team with the appointment of Martyn Pottage as regional financial planning manager for north of England.

Pottage was previously area manager at Aviva Financial Advice.

Raymond James

The firm has hired Alex Barrell as a wealth manager in its Oxford office.

He joins Raymond James from Investec Wealth & Investment, having also previously worked at Brewin Dolphin and Citibank.

Janus Henderson Investors

The asset manager has boosted its made environmental, social and governance (ESG) investment team.

The hires in London are:

  • Dan Raghoonundon as ESG research lead;
  • Charles Devereux, ESG research analyst;
  • Olivia Jones, junior ESG research analyst;
  • Jesse Verheijen, ESG data analyst; and
  • Bhaskar Sastry, ESG content manager.

In Denver, Blake Bennett joins the team as governance and stewardship analyst.

The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI)

Paul Groden has been named president of CISI’s Jersey branch.

He is currently leading the transformation of Standard Bank’s international business.

Grant Thornton UK

The firm has named Matthew Pannell as director to lead and develop its existing US-UK private client tax advisory and compliance team in London.

He was previously at EY Frank Hirth.
