UBS
The Swiss private bank has named Ralph Hamers as its group chief executive and president of its executive board, effective 1 November 2020.
Hamers currently serves as chief executive of Dutch-headquartered bank ING Group, where he has been since 1991.
He will replace Sergio Ermotti, who has been group chief executive since September 2011.
J Safra Sarasin
The Basel-headquartered banking group has named Andy Chai as chief executive of Asia and a member of the executive committee.
He was previously at BNP Paribas Wealth Management Asia, where he was co-chief executive.
Chai replaced Enid Yip, who has been appointed as a member of the board of both J Safra Sarasin Holding and J Safra Sarasin.
Separately, the banking group has promoted Vinay Gandhi to deputy chief executive for Asia.
He replaces Yelandur Nagendra, who is retiring from the firm.
Gandhi will continue his role as chief executive for Singapore, a role he assumed in 2018.
HSBC
The UK-headquartered bank has named Kevin Martin as chief operating officer of its newly created global wealth and personal banking business, it confirmed to International Adviser.
This comes after HSBC said on 18 February it would merge its private banking and wealth businesses to form a wealth and personal banking unit. It is also looking to shed around 35,000 jobs over the next three years.
Martin is currently head of its Asia Pacific retail banking and wealth management segment.
He will continue to be based in Hong Kong and his successor, as head of Asia Pacific wealth and personal banking, will be announced soon.
Mirabaud Group
The Geneva-headquartered private bank has promoted Francois Leyss as chief operating officer of the group.
He is currently chief operating officer of Mirabaud Asset Management.
Leyss will take up the role on 1 March 2020.
Elsewhere, Raphaël Ducret has been named as chief operating officer of Mirabaud Asset Management.
Ducret has been the head of organisation at Mirabaud since 2016.
He will also take up the position on 1 March 2020.
Brooks Macdonald
Gary Stirrup has been promoted to director, head of UK distribution.
He joined the firm in September 2019 from Fidelity Funds Network.
Elsewhere, Brooks Macdonald has promoted Liam Pryce-Jones to head of south.
From his base in the group’s Hampshire office, Pryce-Jones will work closely with teams in East Anglia and Tunbridge Wells to drive business opportunities in the region.
Rathbones
The UK investment management firm has hired Jake Lewis and Luciano Caira as discretionary fund management specialists within its distribution team.
Both will report to Greg Mullins, director of sales.
Lewis joins from Brooks Macdonald, where he was a senior business development manager.
Caira was previously a partner and business development manager at Seven Investment Management (7IM).
Chartered Insurance Institute
Tali Shlomo, people engagement director, left the CII to pursue new opportunities at the end of January.
Currently her role is “being undertaken by an interim director, while a full-time incumbent is being sought”, the CII said.
Investment Association
Keith Skeoch, chief executive of Standard Life Aberdeen, has been appointed chair of the asset management trade body’s board.
He will assume the role on 1 May 2020, having been deputy chair since August 2019.
Skeoch replaces Peter Harrison, group chief executive of Schroders, after his three-year term as chair expired.
