PEOPLE MOVES: The Fry Group, Sun Life, QB Partners

C-suite promotion at financial advisory firm, while life insurer replaces outgoing CIO

The Fry Group

David Pugh has been promoted to chief strategy and commercial officer at the financial advisory firm.

He has been at The Fry Group for 10 years and was most recently chief commercial officer.

Sun Life Financial

The life insurer has hired Laura Money as executive vice president and chief information officer.

Money is joining Sun Life from Canadian bank CIBC, where she was senior vice president and chief information officer of corporate centre technology.

She succeeds Mark Saunders, who announced his plans to retire at the end of April next year.

Saunders will support Money in her transition and continue to lead in areas including real estate, procurement and shared business services as they evolve in the coming year.

QB Partners

The independent cross border technical specialist has announced the departure of its head of trust and estate planning, Bob Easton.

He has retired after a career of 44 years, to spend more time with his expanding family.

Following the retirement of Easton, QB Partners has named Kevin Raftery as trust and estate planning consultant.

He has 40 years’ experience in the life and pensions industry, during which he has specialised in tax planning with a particular emphasis on estate planning.

Deutsche Bank Wealth Management

Sofia Sool will join the firm’s wealth management Europe team as a managing director and co-head of its emerging Europe business with specific accountability for Russian and eastern European clients.

Based in London, Sool will oversee this market together with Switzerland-based Asaf Raveh.

She spent the last five years heading the ultra-high net worth emerging markets and global family office teams for UBS in London.

Canada Life Investments

Craig Metcalf has been hired as head of strategic alliances at the asset manager.

Reporting to director of investment sales Ian Goulsbra, Metcalf will be responsible for leading and promoting the company’s offering in the UK advisory market.

He joins from Aberdeen Standard Investments, where he was third party and major distribution director.

Close Brothers Asset Management (CBAM)

The wealth firm has appointed Michael Barr as an investment director in its Edinburgh office.

Barr joins CBAM from Brooks Macdonald, where he spent seven years as an investment manager and director.

Artemis Investment Management

The investment firm has hired Craig Bonthron, Neil Goddin, Jonathan Parsons and Ryan Smith to launch a sustainable global equity fund.

It will aim to invest in disruptive and innovative companies that have positive impact.

The four worked together at Kames Capital, where they managed significant assets, including the Kames Global Sustainable Equity Fund.

They will be based in Artemis’ Edinburgh office.
