Standard Chartered names Singapore chief, Columbia Threadneedle veteran retires and Carrick Wealth promotes managing directors to head Africa business.

Standard Chartered

Patrick Lee has been named chief executive of Standard Chartered in Singapore. He will retain his role as head of global banking until a successor is named.

He will report to Judy Hsu who previously held the role in addition to her post as chief for Asean and south Asia.

Columbia Threadneedle Investments

Vanessa Donegan, head of Asian equities, Europe, will retire from Columbia Threadneedle Investments after a career of more than 35 years, including the last 32 years at Columbia Threadneedle and its predecessor firms.

Donegan is one of the longest serving female fund managers in the City of London and has been a role model for female talent within the firm and the broader industry.

In January this year, Columbia Threadneedle brought together its regional Asian Equities teams into an eight-strong global capability, led by Singapore-based Soo Nam Ng.

Ng has over 20 years’ experience of managing Asian equities and joined Columbia Threadneedle in 2013, following six years as chief investment officer at Nikko Asset Management.

Donegan will be transitioning portfolios over the next few months, with new lead managers formally taking over portfolios on 1 October 2018. She will be with the firm until the end of year to ensure a full handover and to continue to provide guidance and support.

Carrick Wealth

Carrick Wealth has promoted Mike Potts and Greg Stockton to joint managing directors, effective immediately.

Prior to the announcement, Potts and Stockton each held the position of director: wealth management and advisory.

Group chief executive Craig Featherby said the appointments would hasten the company’s growth and expansion.

Potts and Stockton will be jointly responsible for the existing Carrick offices in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Gaborone, Harare, Blantyre, and Nairobi as well as the international office based in Mauritius.

Aviva

Aviva Investors has hired eight from Standard Life Investments for its equities business, strengthening its UK, Global and Global Emerging Market equities teams.

The additions follow the January 2018 arrival of David Cumming as chief investment officer, equities.

Mikhail Zverev and Alistair Way will join as head of global equities and head of global emerging market equities, respectively. Both will report to Cumming, as will Henry Flockhart and Adam McInally; who join as UK equity portfolio managers.

Additionally, Jaime Ramos Martin and Ross Mathison will join as global equities portfolio managers, reporting to Zverev; while Jonathan Taub and Will Malcom join as global emerging markets portfolio managers, reporting to Way.

In addition, Stephanie Niven joins as global equities portfolio manager from Tesco Pension Investment and will be based in London reporting to Cumming.

All nine will be based at Aviva Investors’ Edinburgh office, which opens at the end of July.

Artorius Wealth

Artorius Wealth, a Manchester-based wealth manager with offices in London and Zurich, has made two senior hires. Jane Fowke joins as head of wealth planning and Tina Winder joins as head of compliance.

Fowke was previously at Kleinwort Hambros where she was a senior wealth manager for six years.

Winder joins from Tilney where she was deputy head of compliance.

Close Brothers

Close Brothers Group has appointed Mike Morgan as group finance director and an executive member of the board of directors.

Prior to joining Close Brothers, he held a number of roles at Scottish Provident and RBS, most recently as finance director of the wealth management division of RBS.

Carey Olsen

Offshore law firm Carey Olsen has made seven senior promotions across its British Virgin Islands (BVI), Guernsey and Jersey offices.

The promotions, effective from 1 July, include Sharon Mungall and Claire Le Quesne who have become counsel in the BVI and Jersey corporate teams, respectively.

Leonie Corfield and Alexandria du Jardin have been promoted to senior associates in the Guernsey corporate team, while Julia Schaefer has become a senior associate in the Guernsey dispute resolution and litigation team.

Nichola Aldridge of the Jersey trusts and private wealth practice and Tarina Le Boutillier of the Jersey employment team have also been made senior associates.

Mungall advises on corporate, finance and insolvency matters from Carey Olsen’s BVI office. Her diverse practice ranges from start-up financing in emerging markets and high value real estate financing to corporate matters such as cross-border private equity, joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions.

Le Quesne has been at Carey Olsen since 2006. She is a member of the Jersey corporate team and has considerable experience advising clients in respect of corporate, funds and banking matters. Her principal practice area focuses on corporate real estate and investment funds, both listed and non-listed.

Vontobel

Yann Lepape has joined Vontobel Asset Management’s bond team, specialising in global flexible bonds.

Lepape has over 20 years’ experience in macroeconomics, markets strategy and portfolio management.

Prior to joining Vontobel AM, he worked for Oddo BHF AM where he was a member of the global investment committee and responsible for global macro analysis, the asset allocation of the balanced fund range

Mediolanum Asset Management

Mediolanum Asset Management (MAM), the Irish asset management company of the Mediolanum Banking Group, has appointed Christophe Jaubert as head of investment performance.

Based in Dublin, Jaubert oversees MAM’s expanding investment team, with responsibility for the firm’s investment performance and overarching process.

Jaubert joins from Rothschild HDF Investment Solutions in Paris where he served as the managing director, chief investment officer and head of research.

Barclays

Dena Brumpton, chief executive of Barclays Savings, Investments & Wealth Management is to retire from her role with Dirk Klee named as her successor effective from September 2018, subject to regulatory approval.

Klee has spent the last five years at UBS in Zurich. His most recent role as chief operating officer for the wealth management arm.

Sanne

Sanne has appointed James Ireland as chief financial officer.  Based in London, Ireland will be taking over the role from Spencer Daley who will be moving into the role of head of M&A and strategy with responsibility for helping the group explore and maximise strategic opportunities with both an organic and inorganic focus.

Ireland will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the global business and its regional operations. He joins from Investec where he led the firm’s support services sector team.

Tenet

Iain McDonald has been appointed to the role of head of recruitment for Tenet’s investment network, TenetConnect. McDonald was previously with Intrinsic for three years as relationship manager, following 10 years at Sesame as regional development director.

In his new role, he will lead recruitment activities for TenetConnect as well as responsibility for the smooth transition of new members during the onboarding process.
