Pensions specialist creates in-house legal department

The pensions specialist has created an in-house legal department to support advisers and their clients with commercial property transactions. 

As part of this, it has hired experienced commercial real estate lawyer Joanne Wilson as head of legal from 2 June.

Wilson was previously legal director at Morton Fraser MacRoberts, almost exclusively advising SIPP and SSAS clients. She was instrumental in leading its property in pensions team, the firm said. 

She brings more than 20 years’ experience to the role, having specialised in real estate matters within the self-invested personal pension and small self-administered schemes market. 

Wilson has advised on areas such as acquisitions, disposals, in-specie transfers, syndicate and co-ownership agreements, as well as management matters including leases, rent reviews and landlord and tenant works. 

P1 Investment Services

The operator of the P1 Platform, has appointed James Bishop as senior platform account manager. 

With over 15 years of experience across major financial institutions including M&G, Old Mutual, Standard Life Aberdeen, and AXA Wealth, Bishop brings a deep understanding of adviser needs, platform operations, and relationship management to the role.

He will supporting the firm’s growing community of financial planning firms, providing tailored platform expertise, and helping advisers optimise their use of P1’s tools and services.

This appointment marks the latest move by P1 to enhance its adviser support services having added Michelle Angell and James Fouche in the first half of 2025. 

Baillie Gifford

Shin Nippon investment trust manager Praveen Kumar has left the firm following an internal review.

He managed the £313m Japanese smaller companies trust since 2015, which has gone through a bout of poor performance since 2020.

Returns are down 36.4% over the past five years while its MSCI Japan Small Cap benchmark made positive returns of 20.5%.
