C-suite changes at Resolution and L&G, as UK asset manager hires head of Emea distribution

Resolution Life

John Hele has become president and chief operating officer of the UK, US and Bermuda-based life insurer.

He is responsible for global operations at Resolution Life including finance, risk, actuarial, operations and IT, as well as the profit and loss of the business units.

Prior to joining Resolution Life, he was executive vice president and chief financial officer at MetLife from 2012 to 2018.

Legal and General

Steve Ellis has been named chief executive of Legal and General retail retirement living solutions.

Claire Singleton, currently chief executive of Legal and General’s mature savings business, will succeed Ellis as chief executive of Legal and General home finance.

Both will report to Chris Knight, chief executive of Legal and General retail retirement.

Elllis will start the role at the beginning of April and Singleton will take up her post at the end of the year, following the completion of the transfer of the mature savings business to ReAssure, part of the Swiss Re Group.

Singleton’s appointment is subject to regulatory approval.

Knight will manage Legal and General home finance in the interim period.

Merian Global Investors

The asset manager has promoted Dominik Issler to head of Europe, Middle East and Africa (Emea) distribution and will join its distribution committee

In the newly-created role, Issler will be responsible for distribution across the Emea markets, with a focus on Europe.

He will continue to oversee distribution in the German, Austria and Switzerland region, working alongside specialist Benjamin Huegli who joined the firm in 2017.

Based in Zurich, Issler will report to managing director of distribution, Warren Tonkinson. He joins the business’s distribution committee with immediate effect.

Stonehage Fleming

The independently-owned family office has appointed Julian Vydelingum as senior financial planner in the wealth planning team.

Vydelingum has joined the firm from AES International, where he was an associate director based in Dubai.

He is based in the firm’s London office and reports to Susie Hillier, head of wealth planning.

Sarasin and Partners

Stephen Rothwell has joined as business partner in the private client team.

Rothwell will help with the team’s focus on growing and developing the private client business.

Prior to joining Sarasin, he was head of private merchant banking at Edmond de Rothschild.

He also spent four years as head of private wealth management at Kleinwort Benson and nine years as head of business development at Schroders Private Banking.

Maitland

The global family office, administration and advisory firm has hired David Hathorn as deputy chairman.

Hathorn has been a non-executive director of Maitland International and chairman of its audit and risk committee since May 2017.

He has had a career spanning over 30 years.

BNP Paribas Asset Management

The asset manager has named Gabriel Wilson-Otto as head of stewardship in Asia Pacific, within its sustainability centre.

Based in Hong Kong, Wilson-Otto reports to Helena Viñes Fiestas, BNPP AM’s global head of stewardship and policy.

In this newly-created role, he will lead the firm’s stewardship activities in Asia Pacific, including researching corporate governance issues, undertaking direct and collaborative corporate engagement, and working with policymakers on key issues relating to sustainable finance and investment.

Kames Capital

Jill Shaw and Thomas Dickson have joined the investment manager’s Edinburgh-based fixed income team.

Shaw, who takes up the role of senior investment specialist, has nearly 25 years’ financial services experience.

Dickson has nine years’ asset management experience and joins Kames as an investment specialist.

CISI

The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment has appointed Richa Goyal as a member of its UAE national advisory council (NAC).

She is the chief compliance officer of Middle East and Africa at Banque Internationale á Luxembourg,

Goyal has previously held senior positions at The Royal Bank of Scotland and Dubai Financial Services Authority.
