PEOPLE MOVES: OMI, Architas, Hong Kong SFC

Old Mutual International has named a managing director for its Isle of Man operations, while Architas has poached Seneca IM’s head of retail for a new role and added Axa Wealth’s head of investing to its roster. The Hong Kong and Australian regulators also announced senior appointments.

Old Mutual International

Old Mutual International, part of Old Mutual Wealth, has appointed Peter Kenny managing director of its Isle of Man operations.

Kenny will be responsible for leading the more than 430-strong team, reporting to Steven Levin, chief executive of investment platforms for Old Mutual Wealth.

He joins OMI with over 30 years’ experience in financial services, spanning both the life insurance and hedge fund sectors, having previously held the roles of chief operating officer, fund director and managing director of fund management and distribution companies. 

Prior to that, Kenny worked for Zurich International Life where he held various positions, including that of strategic alliances and client services director with direct responsibility for 300+ staff across global locations.

Architas

Steve Jackson is to depart Seneca Investment Managers after less than a year to join Axa’s asset management business, Architas. In the newly created role of key accounts director, Jackson will be responsible for managing relationships with advice firms and networks.

Formerly head of IFA sales at Schroders, he left the firm in February 2015 after seven years and joined Seneca in October 2015.

Architas has also appointed Jo Pawson as key accounts manager to support the new function. She joins from Axa Wealth.

Additionally, head of investing at Axa Wealth, Adrian Lowcock has joined Architas as investment director. Lowcock’s role will be to work with Architas to develop a better understanding of its retail investor clients and improve the way it communicates with them through advisers and the media.

Lowcock has been at Axa Wealth for two years having joined from Hargreaves Lansdown where he was senior investment manager. 

Hong Kong Securities & Futures Commission

Christina Choi has been named executive director of investment products for Hong Kong’s SFC. She will serve a three-year term and report to chief executive Ashley Alder. Responsible for the authorisation and supervision of investment products, Choi will also be involved in policy formation as a member of the SFC’s executive committee.

Choi was acting head of the SFC’s investment products division following Julia Leung’s appointment as executive director of the intermediaries division in June.

Australian Securities & Investments Commission

Asic has appointed Simon Gray as the new chairman of the Markets Disciplinary Panel, an independent peer review forum for disciplinary action against market participants and operators for alleged breaches of Asic integrity rules.

Gray is deputy chief executive of Shaw and Partners and a member of the Asic Market Supervision Advisory Panel and of the ASX Appeal Tribunal, with more than 15 years’ experience with legal and compliance expertise in the industry including senior oversight of corporate finance.

He will serve a two-year term and replaces Lisa Gay who has led the panel for the past six years.

Honan Insurance Group

Brad Tymmons has joined Australian insurance firm Honan as group director of its broking operations. He comes with a wealth of industry experience, having spent the last four years at Energy Australia as the head of enterprise risk & assurance, and prior to this, holding senior corporate risk servicing roles with both Aon and Willis, as well as management roles with Aon Retail.

Tymmons’ newly created role will see him working closely with the senior leadership team, including chief executive Damien Honan, to drive a number of initiatives around business strategy, carrier management, ancillary revenue, client services and best practice.

Association of Real Estate Funds

The UK’s Association of Real Estate Funds (AREF) has appointed Deborah Lloyd to its board, with the intention that she will succeed David Wise as chairman from January 2017.

Lloyd is understood to be widely known in the industry from many years as a funds lawyer at Nabarro, as well as her time on the management board of the European Association for Investors in Non-Listed Real Estate Vehicles (Inrev). She is currently a member of both AREF’s management committee and its corporate governance committee.

Isle of Man

Chief minister Allan Bell has announced that he will not stand for the island’s general election in September. Bell, who has been chief minister for the last five years, said that the UK’s vote to leave the European Union was a contributing factor in his decision, although he has personal reasons too.
