PEOPLE MOVES: L&G, MUFG, SuMi Trust, SYZ AM

L&G has appointed ex-chief executive of Scottish Widows to its board of directors, while MUFG names its new business development director for EMEA. SuMi Trust has hired Yukihiro Murota as the head of its international unit as SYZ Asset Management finds a new head of sales for Italy.

L&G

Toby Strauss, the former chief executive of Scottish Widows has joined Legal & General’s board as an independent non-executive director.

He will begin the role from 1 January 2017, after stepping down from Scottish Widows in 2015 where he was at the helm for 2011.

Once on the board Strauss will join L&G’s nominations, audit and risk committees.

Before joining Scottish Widows Strauss was chief executive of Aviva’s UK life division. He also currently serves as a trustee of Macmillan Cancer Support.

L&G has also announced that Lesley Knox will become chairman of its remuneration committee at the start of next month

MUFG

MUFG Investor Services, the global asset servicing arm of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, has appointed Kate Stallard as executive director, business development for EMEA.

According to the company, Stellard will be responsible for driving forward MUFG Investor Services’ asset servicing solutions by developing relationships with private equity, real estate and infrastructure firms. 

Prior to this role, Stellard set up her own financial service IRIS Partners, which she founded after 20 years of senior investment service experience.

Previous roles include head of private equity, real estate and infrastructure sales at Northern Trust. She has also held senior roles at HSBC, Ipes and Cinven.

SuMi Trust

Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Group (SuMi Trust), has hired Yukihiro Murota as managing director of Sumitomo Mitsui Trust International Limited (SMTIL), which he joined in April.

Based in London, Murota will manage all aspects of SuMi Trust’s global asset management business, as well as driving growth in the EMEA region. SuMi Trust is Japan’s largest asset manager with $446bn (£344bn, €396bn) in assets under management.

Murota is replacing Hisaya Kambayashi who is returning to SuMi Trust’s head office in Tokyo, where he will continue developing SuMi Trust’s global asset management business.

Prior to joining the company, Murota was an associate general manager of the fiduciary business planning department at Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank (SMTB), the parent company of SMTIL, where he was responsible for business planning for the asset management business.

Between 2005 and 2009, Murota was in charge of client portfolio management for public pension clients for SMTB, and from 1996 to 2005 he was a portfolio manager of global bond funds at SMTB.

SYZ Asset Management

SYZ Asset Management, the asset management division of Swiss banking group SYZ, has appointed Marco Orsi as country head of sales for Italy.

The new manager will be responsible for promoting investment solutions, including OYSTER funds, among Italian institutional clients and asset managers.

Orsi, who was previously sales director at Investec AM, has more than 15 years of experience in the finance industry.

 He previously worked for three years at Allianz Global Investors as external distribution manager, and at BNP Paribas for nine years as retail distribution manager. 

Swiss Re

Jonathan Rake has been named as the head of South East Asia for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions.

Based in Singapore, Rake is tasked with growing the business in the South East Asia region and will report directly to Fred Kleiterp, the reinsurer’s chief executive of Asia-Pacific.

With more than 14 years of insurance experience under his belt, Rake has spent years working in Europe and Asia, including senior management positions in Hong Kong and Singapore.
