Manx Insurance Association chairman replaced, while Merian and Metlife make CEO changes

Manx Insurance Association

The Manx Insurance Association (MIA) has appointed Peter Kenny, chief executive of Old Mutual International, as chairman.

Kenny succeeds Gill Marples, a director at IntegraLife International, who has held the post since 2015.

Marples is stepping down to concentrate on a new role as the life insurance industry representative on the Finance Isle of Man Executive Agency, in which she will continue close ties with the MIA.

Merian Global Investors

Merian has appointed Mark Gregory as chief executive, replacing Richard Buxton who is stepping down from the role and the firm’s executive committee.

Buxton will remain with the business as head of UK equities and manager of the Merian UK Alpha Fund, and he will continue to be involved in the firm’s development via his position on its board.

Gregory joined the firm’s board in October 2018 as independent non-executive director.

He has experience in the financial services sector, including 19 years at Legal & General Group, with the last four years as its chief financial officer.

The firm has also appointed Edward Ho as its head of sales, Hong Kong. Ho will report to London-based Warren Tonkinson, managing director, distribution.

Going forward Kylie Chan, head of sales, North Asia and Anna Yau, sales manager, will report to Ho.

In this role, Ho will be responsible for expanding Merian Global Investor’s presence in Hong Kong. He will also support Chan’s effort across wider north Asian territories outside of China, Taiwan and Japan.

MetLife

MetLife has appointed Michel Khalaf, currently president of US business and Europe, Middle East and Africa, as president and chief executive, effective 1 May 2019.

Khalaf also has been appointed to the MetLife board, effective 1 May. Steven Kandarian, who is retiring, will continue to serve as chairman, president and chief executive through 30 April 2019.

Glenn Hubbard, currently MetLife’s independent lead director, will become MetLife’s non-executive chairman upon Kandarian’s retirement.

Prior to taking on the leadership of Emea, Khalaf was executive vice president and chief executive of MetLife’s Middle East, Africa and South Asia (Measa) region.

He joined MetLife through its acquisition of American Life Insurance Company (Alico) from American International Group (AIG) in 2010.

Brooks Macdonald

The Channel Islands subsidiary of investment manager Brooks Macdonald has hired Stephen Le Lievre as senior investment manager.

Based in Jersey, Le Lievre manages a range of discretionary portfolios for local and international private clients, as well as intermediaries based in the Middle East.

With more than two decades of experience in the international financial services industry, Le Lievre joins from Société Générale Hambros in Jersey.

Legal and General Investment Management

LGIM has appointed Noareen Raja as head of Middle East distribution, with overall responsibility for client relationships in the region.

Raja will report to Sarah Aitken, LGIM’s head of distribution. She will be based in the firm’s London office and replaces Anais Faraj, who left LGIM after three years.

She will focus on deepening and strengthening LGIM’s relationships in the region, building on its expertise in index, credit and real assets as clients seek a broader range of investment solutions, including environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategies, factor-based investing and multi-asset.

Prior to LGIM, Raja was at JP Morgan Asset Management (JPMAM), where she was a member of the JPMAM Sovereign Sales Group for nine years, working with central banks, sovereign wealth funds, government pension funds and other official institutions across the Middle East.

Credit Suisse

Credit Suisse has appointed Natt Thanomsat as head of wealth management Thailand, effective 20 March 2019.

Thanomsat will be based in Bangkok and will lead the team of investment planners.

He will report to Marcus Slöör, market group head Thailand and Vietnam, private banking south Asia, and locally to Chris Prasertsintanah, Thailand country manager.

Thanomsat will take over from Thippa Praneeprachachon, who will retire after more than three decades in the industry on 31 March.

Praneeprachachon will continue to support Credit Suisse as a senior adviser for its wealth management operation in Thailand to help develop business and client opportunities.

LV

Financial services firm LV has appointed Clive Bolton as managing director, life & pensions.

Bolton spent 11 years at Aviva Life UK, five of which were as managing director of retirement solutions.

He is currently a consultant with the International Longevity Centre and a non-executive member of the Civil Service Pension Scheme Advisory Board.

Bolton will replace John Perks, who is leaving to join the Police Mutual Group as chief executive in April.

GAM

GAM Investments has appointed Rob Mumford as investment manager on its global emerging markets equities team.
Mumford is based in Hong Kong and will work with Tim Love and Joaquim Nogueira.

He joins from MNP Advisers, a consultancy servicing asset managers and family offices, where he was managing partner.

Sanne

Sanne has promoted Jason Bingham to managing director of product development.

Based in Sanne’s London office, Bingham has been with Sanne for seven years and has most recently headed up its real estate business.

In his new position, he will be responsible for the strategy of Sanne’s global fund, corporate and private client services, working closely with the firm’s regional managing directors and country heads.

Charles Stanley

Wealth manager Charles Stanley has appointed Marie Lawrence, Sean Osborne and Matthew Honour to its intermediary sales team.

Osborne has been appointed as head of national accounts and joins from Suffolk Life, where he was head of sales.

Lawrence joins as intermediary sales manager and will focus on growing Charles Stanley’s discretionary investment business in the Thames Valley. She joins from Prudential, where she was responsible for maximising sales from advisers through pension and investment sales.

Honour has been appointed as asset management specialist to grow the managed portfolio services business in the south of England.

He joins from Morningstar Investment Management Europe, where he was business development manager of south-west and Wales.
