PEOPLE MOVES: Manulife, Aegon, Legal & General

Manulife’s president and chief executive is to retire, while Aegon has appointed a policy affairs heavy hitter to oversee the company’s government relations in Europe, the Americas and Asia. L&G has a new head of strategic business for its pension risk transfer division.

Manulife

Manulife’s president and chief executive Donald Guloien is to retire as of 30 September. He will be replaced by Roy Gori, who will become Manulife’s President on 5 June, subject to immigration approvals. Gori will succeed Guloien as chief executive and join Manulife’s board on 1 October.

Gori currently serves as senior executive vice president and general manager of Manulife’s Asia division. As president, he will be responsible for leading Manulife’s Canadian, US and investment operations, in addition to Asia.

Manulife also announced that Craig Bromley, senior executive vice president and general manager of the company’s US division (John Hancock), has left.

Michael Doughty, who currently serves as president and general manager of John Hancock Insurance, has been appointed general manager of US division on an interim basis, subject to all necessary approvals.

Aegon

Aegon has named Maurice Perkins as senior vice president, global head of government and policy affairs, to oversee all aspects of the company’s political relations in Europe, the Americas and Asia.

He will join Aegon on 26 June, succeeding Michael Consedine who left the company when he was appointed chief executive of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

Perkins has worked at the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) for more than a decade, where he served as senior vice president, federal relations.

Prior to the ACLI, he served as a senior staff member of US Senate committees on banking and foreign relations, where he worked closely with US Treasury and State Department. He also brings with him significant experience in US and Latin America relations, Nafta, and international financial institutions.

Legal & General

Legal & General’s pension risk transfer division has appointed Pretty Sagoo as head of the strategic business. In her new role, Sagoo will be responsible for implementing large scheme pension buy-ins, buyouts and longevity insurance transactions in the UK, as well as supporting schemes more generally in achieving their de-risking objectives.

She joins from Deutsche Bank where she most recently led the insurance and pensions solutions team. Prior to this, Sagoo held roles at Axa Sun Life and Goldman Sachs.

Deutsche Bank Wealth Management

Deutsche Bank WM has hired a team of four from the Bank of East Asia (BEA) in Hong Kong to cover clients in Greater China. The team will be led by Gloria Sun, who has been named managing director and group head. She will be responsible for acquiring new clients and raising assets in the region.

Joining Sun are Winson Hung, director and investment advisor; Gary Lu, vice president and relationship manager; and Nora Lai, assistant vice president and relationship manager.

Deutsche Bank WM also made nine other new hires in Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai. They will be responsible for client coverage, project management, IT and know-your-client activities.

FundsNetwork

Jackie Boylan has been appointed head of advisory services for Fidelity International’s investment services platform FundsNetwork. She will assume responsibility for the management and development of the service and experience that FundsNetwork delivers to advisory firms.

She joins from BT Financial Group, a subsidiary of Australian wealth manager Westpac Group. Boylan has held a wide variety of management positions over the course of her 22 years with the group, including head of platform sales and key accounts from 2008 to 2011 and more recently as the head of customer relations from 2011 to present.

HSBC Private Banking

HSBC Private Banking has boosted its UK regional and ultra-high net worth (UHNW) and media teams with five new appointments.

Nathan Dosanjh joins HSBC Private Banking’s Birmingham team as a relationship manager. Dosanjh joins from Investec Wealth Management where he was business development director, with responsibility for the West Midlands. The Birmingham team also recently recruited a dedicated strategic financial planner, Adrian Hogg, who moved to Private Banking from HSBC Premier.

Darren Watkins joins the Private Banking team in the south-west and Wales, from HSBC Premier where he has worked with high net worth clients for seven years.

In addition to the regional hires, Helen Gammons has joined HSBC Private Banking’s specialist media team, transferring from one of HSBC Private Banking’s European offices, while Jordan Warner joins the UHNW desk from Gatemore Capital Management.
