PEOPLE MOVES: Kingswood, AAM Advisory, Rathbones

Top management reshuffle at wealth manager, as Asian advisory firm makes senior promotion

Kingswood

The UK-based wealth management firm has made three senior hires.

Harriet Griffin has been named chief operating officer. She joins from Charles Stanley where she held a similar role in its private client investment management business.

Richard Bernstein has taken on the role of chief risk officer, after spending over eight years at Close Brothers Asset Management, where most recently he was head of risk and central compliance.

Kirsten Owbridge has become Kingswood’s managing director – group HR. She was previously senior HR business partner at St James’s Place.

AAM Advisory

Matthew Smalley has been promoted to vice president – wealth management at AAM Advisory.

He has been working at the financial advice firm since April 2018, when he joined as a senior financial planner.

Prior to that, Smalley was an assistant director at IFS, focusing on expat wealth management.

Rathbones

Investment management firm Rathbones has recruited Niraj Shah to lead its research team.

He will be responsible for the production of research into global, UK large-cap and specialist healthcare open-ended funds and investment trusts.

Shah was previously a strategic adviser at a private investment office for over six years.

Fidante Partners

The global boutique asset management business has made a senior promotion.

David Cubbin will become the firm’s head of distribution as he moves to London from the head office in Australia, where he spent over four years.

He will be responsible for business growth in Europe.

Quilter Financial Planning

Ken Lambden has joined the board of Quilter Financial Planning as a non-executive director, chair of the investment oversight committee, and as a member of the governance audit and risk committee.

He was the chief executive officer of JO Hambro Capital Management until February 2019.

Manulife Hong Kong

The insurer’s Hong Kong business has promoted Wilton Kee to head of health.

He is also and will remain the firm’s vice president and chief product officer.

The move follows Manulife’s push to expand its health business.

Julius Baer

Kathryn Shih and Christian Meissner will become independent members of Julius Baer’s board.

This follows Paul Man Yiu Chow’s decision to step down, as he will be reaching the age limit for the Swiss firm’s board members.

Meissner will take on his role immediately after election, while Shih will start her mandate on 1 September 2020.

Meissner spent nine years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch as head of global corporate and investment banking; while Shih was president of Asia Pacific and member of the group executive board at UBS until 2018.

The Pensions Regulator

The UK watchdog has appointed three non-executive directors to its board.

Chris Morson and Katie Kapernaros will join the board on 1 April 2020, while Sarah Smart has been appointed for another term.

They have all been approved by the secretary of state for work and pensions.

VG

The Jersey-based independent fiduciary and administration solutions provider has promoted Iain Mason to managing director.

He joined VG in 2012 as head of compliance and risk and was promoted to chief operations officer in 2015.

Mason replaces Mark Hucker who stepped down in January 2020.
