HMRC’s most senior tax professional is to retire, while Deloitte has poached a senior commissioner from the US Internal Revenue Service, and Standard Chartered Private Bank has hired two veteran private bankers in Asia.

HM Revenue & Customs

HMRC’s executive chair and first permanent secretary Edward Troup is to retire. He joined the UK tax office in 2012, after several years at HM Treasury, and is the Revenue’s most senior tax professional.

“After nearly 40 years in the world of tax, and the last 13 working in HM Treasury and HMRC, I have decided to retire from my role as chair of HMRC,” he said.

During his tenure, Troup also filled the role of tax assurance commissioner as well as leading the former business group Central Tax and Strategy. Since April 2016, Troup has chaired HMRC’s board.

Deloitte

Strategic consultancy firm Deloitte has appointed Rosemary Sereti as managing director of Deloitte Tax in its Washington national tax and tax controversy services practice.

She will advise Deloitte’s US clients on identifying and resolving international and domestic tax issues, including the most recent IRS initiatives that impact large business and international (LB&I) taxpayers.

Sereti was previously deputy commissioner for the LB&I division, where she led a team of more than 4,500 tax professionals and staff.

Standard Chartered Private Bank

Standard Chartered Private Bank has hired more than 50 bankers and consultants since the fourth quarter of last year as it expands in its greater China and north Asia market.

The firm has added two managing directors in veteran private bankers Jack Wu and Pauline Ko. They will both be based in Hong Kong and report to greater China private banking regional head Vivian Chan.

Jack Wu joins the bank from HSBC where he was a managing director. He has previously worked with Credit Suisse.

Meanwhile, Ko who has also worked with Julius Baer and Merrill Lynch, joins from Deutsche Bank where she was group head for greater China.

Among other appointments in the private banking team are Pitman Lau who joins from BNP Paribas, and Reggie Cheung who earlier worked with HSBC.

DBS Bank

Singapore bank DBS has appointed Daniel Li as the regional head for its wealth advisory enablement and order management architecture division.

In the role, Li will work on the implementation of the regional wealth portfolio advisory framework and will report to Lim Soon Chong, who is the regional head of the investment products and advisory division.

Before taking the new role, he was the managing director and head of digital, wealth management transformation program for private, priority and business banking at Standard Chartered Bank and has also worked with Citi.

Harvest Global Investments

Fund manager Harvest Global Investments, which focuses on the Chinese and Asian markets, has made three appointments as part of its expansion in Hong Kong.

The firm said it has hired Winnie Wong as fixed income portfolio manager; Kathy Zhang as a China equity strategist, and Kenn An as head of product.

Prior to joining Harvest, Wong was director of capital markets at the Royal Bank of Canada. Zhang previously worked at Credit Suisse as a research analyst, whiled An was formerly head of product and marketing at UBS Asset Management in Hong Kong.

State Street Global Advisors

Passive funds provider State Street Global Advisors has named Meaghan Victor as the new head of its SPDR ETFs for Australia.

Victor will be based in Sydney and will oversee the growth of the business in Australia.

She was previously the national partnership manager for BT Financial Group, prior to which she held a number of sales management and product development roles with companies such as KBC Asset Management and Fidelity International.

First State Investments

Global asset manager First State Investments said it appointed Heather Brilliant as managing director of Americas, effective 8 September.

She replaces James Twiss, who left the company this month after relocating to Australia earlier this year.

Brilliant will be responsible for managing the business of Australia-based First State Investments in the Americas. This will involve further expanding the firm’s market presence across the region and strengthening its institutional capabilities.

She is based in New York and reports to chief executive Mark Lazberger.

Tobam

Frederic Jamet has joined asset manager Tobam in a newly-created role as head of trading and co-head of research.

Jamet will supervise all trading activities within Tobam’s equities, fixed income, foreign exchange and multi asset strategies.

As co-head of research, he will support the firm’s maximum diversification approach and oversees research for operational and portfolio management divisions.

Bravura Solutions

Life insurance, private wealth and funds administration software supplier Bravura Solutions has announced the appointment of Mike Margetts as chief operating officer for wealth management in the Emea region.

Margetts is responsible for delivering and implementing Bravura’s flagship Sonata product across Emea, as well as ongoing support services. He is based in London.

Margetts has over 25 years of experience in the finance and technology services industries, having held executive positions at Accenture, Credit Suisse, Xchanging and Capita.

He replaces Harry Storer, who joined Bravura in 2014 and will retire by the end of the month.

GoldenTree Asset Management

GoldenTree Asset Management has expanded to Australia and appointed long time JP Morgan executive Russell Taylor as the managing director to lead its Sydney office.

Before joining GoldenTree, Taylor worked with JP Morgan for many years where he had held roles across credit derivatives, structured credit, securitisation, loans and rates.

His last role at JP Morgan was with the sales team where he was responsible for the distribution of credit and alternative products to financial institutions in Australia and New Zealand.

Houlihan Lokey

Global investment bank Houlihan Lokey said veteran banker Reinhard Koester has joined as managing director and co-head of the financial institutions group.

Koester joins from Barclays Capital, where he was co-head of specialty finance.

The seasoned banker previously co-led and helped build the specialty finance practices at Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan Chase. He was also an attorney at Davis Polk & Wardwell.
