Guernsey Finance

Guernsey Finance has hired Adrian Norman as its London representative as it looks to grow its connections with the city.

Norman will be permanently based in London with a remit to further promote awareness of the island’s finance offering, to educate about Guernsey’s financial services and to connect London professionals with Guernsey practitioners.

He is Guernsey-born and has 25 years of finance experience, more than 20 of those on the island, where he has worked across funds, private wealth and banking at firms such as Credit Suisse, Northern Trust, Carey Group, Ogier and Odey Wealth.

His role at Odey took him to London in 2014, where he was head of operations with Odey Asset Management. He has experience of working with funds domiciled in multiple jurisdictions.

AIC

The board of the Association of Investment Companies (AIC) has appointed Susie Farnon as a non-executive director.

Farnon is also a non-executive director of Apax Global Alpha, BH Global, HICL Infrastructure, Real Estate Credit Investments and Standard Life Investments Property Income.

She was a banking and finance partner with KPMG Channel Islands from 1990 to 2001 and head of audit at KPMG Channel Islands from 1999.

Aviva

Aviva Investors has poached Standard Life Investments’ head of continental European real estate to head up its UK real estate division.

Daniel McHugh, who had been at SLI for 18 years, joined Tuesday and reports to Aviva Investors Real Estate chief executive Ed Casal.

The group has also appointed Melanie Collet as head of real estate asset management from Round Hill Capital, where she was head of asset management from November 2015 to March 2018, managing the European portfolio on behalf of US private equity partners. She will report in to McHugh.

Casal said the pair’s experience would be invaluable as the real estate team looks to expand their position in the UK and globally.

McHugh will be responsible for all direct real estate activity in the UK, leading the firm’s specialist fund management, asset management and transaction teams.

Collet joins the business next week and will be responsible for the firm’s sector-focused asset management teams, development management and project management capabilities.

Jupiter

Jupiter Asset Management has appointed Darren Starr, a former alumnus of Steve Cohen’s hedge fund, to its growing liquid alternatives business as it plans to launch a US equity long/short fund.

The fund house said it plans to launch the Ucits-compliant fund later this year, pending regulatory approval.

Starr has 10 years’ experience managing US equity long-short portfolios across roles at UBS and Caxton.

Between 2010 and 2012, he also worked at SAC Global Investors, the US hedge fund headed by billionaire Cohen before a Securities and Exchange Commission investigation into insider trading required external money to be returned. It is now run as Cohen’s family office.
