J Safra Sarasin

Swiss private bank J. Safra Sarasin has hired Onnah Liew for its ultra-high net worth (UHNW) team in Singapore.

Liew joined the bank on 12 December as managing director for client advisory. In the newly-created role, she will head the UHNW Singapore team, while reporting to Vinay Gandhi, managing director and chief executive for UNHW client segment in Asia. Gandhi joined the firm from UBS in March 2017.

Liew has 20 years’ experience in the industry. She joined J. Safra Sarasin from Deutsche Bank in Singapore, where she was a managing director for south-east Asia and a team leader since 2007.

Prior to that, she was at ABN Amro Bank, Credit Suisse, OCBC Bank and KPMG.

In November, the bank appointed Belle Chang as managing director for client advisory for the Philippines in its UHNW team, who also reports to Gandhi.

Aviva Investors

Heavyweight equities manager David Cumming has resurfaced at Aviva Investors after jumping ship at Standard Life Investments (SLI). He will officially join the firm on 2 January 2018 and report to the group’s chief executive Euan Munro.

At Aviva Investors, Cumming will step into the role of chief investment officer in the team’s equities division. In his new position, he will oversee the firm’s equity teams globally.

This is the first job Cumming has taken since vacating his seven-year post as SLI’s head of equities earlier this year and months before the firm’s union with Aberdeen Asset Management.

Cumming had been with SLI since 1998, starting out as an investment director and working his way up to head of UK equities in 2000.

He replaces the current global head of equities Chris Murphy, who has been at the helm since 2015.

Murphy will now be “focusing all his efforts” on managing the Aviva Investors UK Equity Fund, the Aviva Investors UK Equity Income Fund and the Aviva Investors Distribution Fund, the firm confirmed.

Julius Baer

Julius Baer Group has nominated Richard Campbell-Breeden for election to the firm’s board of directors.

The election for a new member of the board will take place at the annual general meeting on 11 April 2018.

In addition to the election, Breeden is expected to become a member of the board of directors of Bank Julius Baer & Co, which is composed of the same members in identical responsibilities as the group’s board.

Breeden’s career includes 27 years at Goldman Sachs in London, Hong Kong and New York, of which 16 years were spent as a partner.

His experience in Asia is of particular interest to Julius Baer as the firm looks to further extend its business in China and throughout the region.

PwC

PwC bolstered its senior management team at its Jersey office through two appointments.

Additionally, PwC has appointed Andre Bougourd as a senior manager specialising in personal and offshore trust company taxation.

Bougourd has more than 20 years’ experience working for professional service practices and trust companies.

Fulcrum

Fulcrum Asset Management has appointed Matthew Roberts as a partner with the remit to create an alternatives group investing in real assets and credit.

Prior to this, he ran its multi-asset and multi-strategy hedge fund research teams.

Financial management technology company Moneyhub has promoted two members of its senior team in preparation for the launch of its Open Banking entity in January 2018.

Dan Scholey has been promoted to chief operations officer, from his previous position as chief product officer, while Warren Turner has been promoted from financial controller to financial director.

Both Scholey and Turner will report directly to chief executive Samantha Seaton, who has held her role since September 2016.

Beddoe has worked in the finance industry for 15 years, predominantly for fiduciary and law firms.

Rebecca Stannard has also been promoted by the firm to head of marketing and business development.

Beddoe joined Bedell Cristin in 2016 and has more than 15 years’ experience in marketing, communications and business development within the finance industry.
