FSCS
The UK Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) has named Caroline Rainbird as its next chief executive.
Her appointment is effective from 4 May 2019 when she will succeed Mark Neale. She also joins the FSCS board.
Rainbird was previously at RBS between 2009 and 2017, where she held senior positions as director of the corporate services division and managing director of regulatory affairs.
BlackRock
The American asset manager is in talks with veteran Pacific investor Tang Xiaodong, as it looks to strengthen its Chinese operations.
The firm reportedly wants him to run its operations in mainland China. Even though BlackRock has less than 7% of its assets in Asia, the company is trying to take advantage of China opening its markets to foreign investors.
Tang worked as a managing director at RBS Greenwich Capital and at JP Morgan Chase in New York.
Stonehage Fleming
Family office Stonehage Fleming has hired Becton Davies as its chief financial officer.
The role is newly created starting immediately, and he will be based in the firm’s London office.
Davies joins from Close Brothers Asset Management where he served in a similar position for the last seven years.
BMO Global Asset Management
Steward Bennett has been named global head of alternatives at BMO GAM.
In the newly created position, he will oversee the company’s recently-rolled out global alternatives offerings in addition to its already-existing private equity, real estate and real estate security business.
Bennet will be based in BMO’s London offices from 7 May 2019. He joins from Ondra Partners where he served for 10 years as a partner and head of the financial institutions group.
Columbia Threadneedle Investments
Double promotions for the global asset manager in London. Mine Tezgul and Scott Woods have become senior portfolio managers, leaving their previous roles as investment professionals.
Tezgul will be the deputy manager of the firm’s Europe ex UK Small Cap portfolio, while Woods will manage the Threadneedle (Lux) Global Smaller Companies Fund.
Tezgul joined Columbia Threadneedle last year, while Woods has been at the company since 2015.
Jupiter AM
Jupiter Asset Management has named Mark Heslop as fund manager on its European equities team. He will take on the role of European equities manager and small cap specialist.
Heslop will join the firm from Columbia Threadneedle in September. That will coincide with Jupiter’s plans to roll out a European smaller companies fund in the last quarter of 2019.
Arbuthnot Latham
Barry Grieve has been hired as senior private banker to the private and commercial banking and wealth management business’ Manchester office.
He joins from Coutts & Co where he was director, private banker overseeing a portfolio of high net worth clients.
