The Fry Group adds a veteran adviser in Singapore, Carrick Wealth appoints a high-flyer to its board and Bob Pain launches his own consultancy firm.

The Fry Group

The Fry Group has appointed Gary Smithson as a financial planning consultant based in Singapore.

Smithson brings 20 years’ experience of retirement, tax and pension planning, in both the UK and Singapore

He also previously acted as senior manager and professional trustee at audit, account, tax and advisory firms, as well as advising private and SME clients on small self-administered schemes (Ssas) and self invested personal pensions (Sipp).

Carrick Wealth Management

Carrick Wealth Management has appointed Greg Stockton to head up all its international offices – Zimbabwe, Botswana, Malawi, and Mauritius – following his promotion to the board of directors.

Stockton entered the financial services sector in 2003 in a business development role, progressing to other roles as a senior financial advisor, senior manager and regional manager. Over the last decade and a half, Stockton has worked in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, Qatar, Dubai and South Africa.

Cadel Consulting

Bob Pain has founded Cadel Consulting, which targets the life and pensions industry in the UK and internationally providing mentoring, research, distribution and marketing and business development.

Pain is chairman of the Association of International Life Offices (Ailo) and advises boards of international life companies; holds a non-executive directorship and is chairman of a start-up fund company.

Financial Conduct Authority

Charles Randell has been appointed chair of the FCA. He is replacing John Griffith-Jones who has helmed the UK financial regulator since it replaced the Financial Services Authority in April 2013. Griffith-Jones confirmed in June 2017 that he would not stand for another term.

Randell is currently an external member of the Prudential Regulation Committee of the Bank of England and a non-executive board member of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

Randell will take up the role on 1 April 2018, for a five-year term.

State Street Global Advisors

State Street Global Advisors, the asset management arm of State Street Corporation has appointed Miles O’Connor as head of Institutional for Emea, effective immediately.

O’Connor will be based in London reporting to Cuan Coulter, head of State Street Global Advisors for Emea, and Cyrus Taraporavela, president and chief executive officer of State Street Global Advisors.
