Friends Provident International
FPI, part of the Aviva group, has appointed John Elkovich as managing director of FPI Hong Kong, effective from 1 August and subject to regulatory approval. He report will directly to Adrian Emery, chief executive of FPI.
Elkovich has more than 25 years of international financial services leadership experience gained across Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong. He was most recently head of investment advisory and wealth planning at ANZ Global Wealth and Private Bank Asia, based in Singapore.
He succeeds Charles Barrows who has been appointed vice president director of Astra Aviva Life in Indonesia, subject to regulatory approval. Barrows will continue in his current role at FPI Hong Kong in the interim.
Old Mutual Global Investors
OMGI, part of Old Mutual Wealth, has hired Gerard Clancy as head of sales, southeast Asia, based in Singapore. He joined the business on 4 July 2016 and reports to Carol Wong, managing director, Asia Pacific, who is based in Hong Kong.
Clancy joins from Columbia Threadneedle Investments where he was executive director, wholesale distribution for the past five years. He was responsible for business development specifically focussed on southeast Asia markets, conducting business through private banking, consumer and IFA channels.
During his 20 years’ career experience he has held a number of roles within a sales and distribution remit including strategic development and client servicing at Blackrock focusing on Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea and southeast Asia markets.
Legal & General Investment Management
LGIM has appointed Stephen Gray to the newly created role of head of wealth management. He will report to Simon Hynes, head of UK retail sales. Gray will be working with wealth managers, stockbrokers and fund-of-fund clients in extending LGIM’s wholesale proposition.
Gray has 18 years of experience working with discretionary clients. He joins LGIM from Axa Investment Managers, where he was head of discretionary sales. Prior to this, he was regional sales manager at Framlington Unit Management.
Axa Investment Managers
Axa IM has announced the appointment of John Stainsby as head of UK client group, reporting to Philippe d’Orgeval, head of UK, and Christophe Coquema, global head of client group. Stainsby will lead the company’s UK distribution efforts across the institutional and wholesale segments.
He joins from JP Morgan Asset Management where he spent 16 years, most recently as head of UK institutional business. Prior to this he was head of global equity client portfolio management.
Jersey Finance
An Kelles has been appointed business development director for greater China, to spearhead its strategy across the Far East.
Based in Jersey Finance’s Hong Kong office, Kelles will be responsible for expanding Jersey’s range of activities in the region, identifying opportunities for Jersey financial services businesses, and building relationships between Hong Kong, greater China and Jersey.
She takes over the role from predecessor Yumei Zhang.
Kames Capital
Yasmine Ellis has been hired as business development manager within the firm’s UK wholesale distribution team. Based in Kames’ London office, Ellis will report into head of UK regional sales Mark Savage.
She joins Kames from Schroders where she has worked within the company’s business development team since 2009, covering UK multi-managers, private banks, wealth managers, family offices and fund of hedge funds. Prior to Schroders, Ellis worked within the sales teams at Gartmore (now Henderson) and in the investor relations team at Liongate Capital.
Nerine Trust Company
Nerine Trust Company in Hong Kong has appointed Michelle Sng as wealth and estate planning manager, as part of Nerine Group of Fiduciaries’ continued growth strategy across its five jurisdictions.
Born in Singapore, Sng is a qualified Australian lawyer who has worked as a wealth and estate planning manager advising high net worth individuals for succession and estate planning for a trust and corporate service provider.
Butterfield
Andy Graham has been named Butterfield Guernsey’s new chief risk officer and has also appointed deputy group head of fiduciary risk with risk management responsibilities for Butterfield Group’s trust and fiduciary services businesses globally.
Graham, who has more than 35 years’ experience in the finance industry, has been involved in the oversight of risk for a number of years. He joins the bank from ABN AMRO, where he was director of enterprise risk management for the last three years.
Alan Le Tocq has been appointed Butterfield Guernsey’s chief operations officer. Le Tocq, who will head up the operational aspects of the business, has a wealth of experience in private banking and joins Butterfield Guernsey from Credit Suisse, where he held the position of regional head of market area UK for private banking operations. In that role he provided operations management for Credit Suisse’s offices in Guernsey, Gibraltar and Credit Suisse UK.
Brewin Dolphin
Philip Thitchener has joined the company as a business development manager covering the south west region. He will be working from both the Exeter and Plymouth offices and will strengthen Brewin Dolphin’s IFA distribution in the area.
Having previously worked for JP Morgan Asset Management for 10 years, he then moved to Bristol based Whitechurch Securities before taking the business development role at Brewin in June 2016.
