PEOPLE MOVES: FPI, Manulife, Schroders…

Friends Provident International has appointed a chief marketing officer for MEA, while Manulife have named a head of distribution EMEA. A Schroders fund manager is stepping down and a reorganisation at Franklin Templeton will see one fund manager stepping back from his day-to-day management role.

Friends Provident International

Philip Cernik has been named chief marketing officer for FPI’s Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, effective 4 April. Formerly head of global expatriate propositions for FPI in the UK, he will relocate to the company’s Dubai office.

Cernik will be managing a team of 11 marketing and product specialists, who will look after all aspects of brand, marketing, communications, and product for FPI in the region.

Manulife

Manulife Asset Management has appointed Marco Zanuso head of distribution EMEA ex UK. Based in London, Zanuso reports to Claude Chene, global head of distribution.

In his new role, Zanuso will oversees a team of distribution specialists building business relationships with institutional and wholesale clients.

Another addition to the team is James Wheeler who will relocate from Manulife Asset Management’s Hong Kong office to London in July, reporting to Zanuso. He will oversee business development in the Nordics and the Netherlands as head of sales and relationship management in those regions.

Schroders

Fund manager Jamie Lowry is to depart Schroders after 12 years with the company. He currently co-manages the Global Equity Income, ISF Global Yield, ISF Global Dividend Maximiser funds; as well as solely managing the ISF European Equity Alpha portfolio.  

According to Schroders, Lowry is to leave the company by the summer to pursue other opportunities.

The company also announced that Courtney Waterman has been named head of EMEA marketing and Peter Beckett has been promoted to the newly created role of head of content and digital.

Waterman joins Schroders from BlackRock where she was head of EMEA institutional marketing. She has over 20 years’ experience working in marketing for global asset management companies including Janus Capital International and Fidelity International.

Beckett will be responsible for digital marketing, marketing services (RFP) and investment communications. He has been at Schroders for eight years as head of UK and international marketing and has over 15 years’ experience working on content-led marketing initiatives.

Franklin Templeton

Mark Mobius is to step back from the day-to-day running of the Templeton Emerging Markets Group (TEMG), which is being brought under the same umbrella as the Franklin Local Asset Management’s (LAM) emerging market equity team from 15 April.

Stephen Dover will become chief investment officer at TEMG and remain chief investment officer of LAM.

Mobius will retain his current portfolio management responsibilities.

Standard Life

Lan Tu has been appointed strategy director of Standard Life, reporting to chief executive Keith Skeoch.

Tu previously worked for American Express where she was vice president for strategic planning and business development. Tu has also worked as a management consultant for McKinsey.
