Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)
The FCA is believed to have added Ashley Alder to its list of contenders for the top job, following Andrew Bailey’s departure to take on the role of governor of the Bank of England.
Alder has been at the helm of Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission for almost a decade and is set to step down in September 2020.
According to British broadcaster Sky News, he is being considered for the chief executive vacancy at the UK watchdog.
Another contender is Chris Woolard, current interim chief executive, who has worked at the FCA since 2013.
WIllis Towers Watson
Mark Calnan has been promoted to head of investments for Emea at the advisory, broking and solutions firm.
He spent the last 16 years at Willis Towers Watson, with his latest role being head of specialist solutions, which he took on in 2014, and he will retain those responsibilities alongside his promotion.
Calnan succeeds Ed Francis, who remains within the business, but has decided to resume his duties as a senior investment adviser.
ATC Tax
The UK tax consultancy firm, which was set up by a trio who previously worked at The Fry Group, has recruited one of their former colleagues as a private client director.
Max Porter was previously assistant manager of the UK tax team at The Fry Group.
Maitland
Global advisory business Maitland has added two industry heavyweights to its board of directors.
Dena Brumpton and Denise Everall join as non-executive directors.
Brumpton was most recently chief executive of Barclays Savings, Investments and Wealth Management; while Everall joins from BNP Paribas where she served as head of investment and fund services operations.
Quintet Switzerland
Newly opened private bank Quintet Switzerland has hired Bruno Pfitser as chairman.
He previously held a similar position at Rothschild & Co Bank Zurich and was also group chief executive of Swiss Life.
Progeny
In a bid to expand into the Scottish private legal sector, Progeny has named Stuart Easton as a solicitor.
He will be based in Glasgow but will work closely with the financial planning and wealth management team in Edinburgh.
Easton previously ran his own specialist law practice.
CMS
The international law firm has appointed Owen Ross as a financial services partner.
He will be based in London and joins from law practice Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom where he was a member of the global financial institutions practice.
Sanne
Katy Hodgetts has taken on the role of director in Sanne’s Guernsey office.
She was previously at BNP Paribas where she was head of relationship management for the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
Saffery Champness
The accountancy firm has made two promotions.
Elizabeth Hartless has become a partner in the firm’s private wealth and estates group; while Richard Jameson will hold a similar position focusing on specialist tax advice to high net worth individuals.
Both are based in London.
Tribe Impact Capital
The UK wealth management firm dedicated to social, impact and responsible investing has recruited Alice Gaskell as an investment fellow on its advisory board.
She was an equity portfolio manager at Blackrock and is currently the director of strategy for Women in Banking & Finance.
Gaskell will be responsible for the optimisation of portfolio construction.
