PEOPLE MOVES: Deutsche Bank, RLAM, J. Safra Sarasin

After Deutsche Bank’s head of anti-financial crime stepped down just six months into the job, the German bank has named his replacement. RLAM has created a global equity team by poaching three staff from Waverton IM, while J. Safra Sarasin has a new managing director for client advisory in Hong Kong.

Deutsche Bank

Deutsche Bank has appointed Philippe Vollot as global head of anti-financial crime (AFC) and group money laundering reporting officer (MLRO). He has been with the bank for more than 13 years, most recently as global chief operating officer for regulation, compliance and AFC.

Vollot replaces Peter Hazlewood who stepped down after six months following a budget dispute over his request to recruit hundreds of workers, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Deutsche Asset Management

Deutsche AM has named David Bianco as chief investment strategist for the Americas and head of equities in the US. In his dual roles, Bianco will play an integral part in assisting clients with portfolio construction across Deutsche AM’s full range of investment vehicles and asset classes, and will also lead a team of investors responsible for the management of the active equity assets in the Americas.

Prior to joining Deutsche Bank, Bianco held the position of head US equity strategist for Bank of America Merrill Lynch Investment Research and Global Wealth Management.

Royal London Asset Management

RLAM has hired Peter Rutter, James Clarke, and William Kenney to create a global equity team. All three were previously at Waverton Investment Management. With the arrival of this team, RLAM plans to offer its own global equities solutions to clients in 2017. These roles are subject to regulatory approval.

Rutter will be head of global equities and report into chief investment officer Piers Hillier. Clarke and Kenney will be senior fund managers, both reporting into Rutter.

J. Safra Sarasin

Bank J. Safra Sarasin has hired Masaki Sugawara as Hong Kong-based managing director for client advisory. He joins from Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management where he was Hong Kong-based director for the Japan market.

Sugawara will be responsible for advising clients in Asia as a private banker and manage a team of two.

Barings

Barings has appointed Ike Bae as chief executive of Korea, replacing Thae Khwarg who retired in December after more than 20 years with the firm.

Bae was previously head of sales at Barings and was responsible for leading the Korean institutional and mutual funds businesses. Wonil Kim, Barings’ head of institutional sales in Korea, will replace Bae as head of sales.

Invesco

Former Schroders fund manager Gareth Isaac has joined Invesco in the newly created role of fixed income chief investment officer. He has been tasked with supporting the global growth of Invesco’s fixed income unit, particularly in Emea.

Isaac departed Schroders in August after five years as a fixed income fund manager.

Aberdeen

Graham Duce, previously a director of Aberdeen’s multi-asset team, has taken up a new role in the asset manager’s distribution team. He will work with Aberdeen’s regional heads of distribution to better facilitate the promotion of the group’s investment capabilities, services, and engagement with clients.

State Street Global Exchange

John Plansky will be named global head of State Street Global Exchange. In this role, Plansky will be responsible for global strategy, new product development and developing solutions for clients that help them manage increasingly complex data, search for better performance, focus on attracting assets and meet heightened risk challenges.

He joins from PwC where he led the US Strategy business and US Global Platforms business and was a member of the Advisory Financial Services Leadership team.
