PEOPLE MOVES: Citi, Guardian Wealth, Brewin Dolphin

Citi Private Bank has named two heads of investment for Asia Pacific, with GWM Investment Management adding a senior wealth manager in London. Brewin Dolphin’s Jersey office has a new head.

Citi Private Bank

Citi Private Bank has appointed Roger Bacon as head of investments for Asia Pacific and Adam Proctor as head of managed investments and advisory for Asia Pacific.

Bacon’s remit will include asset allocation, product advice, and execution across capital markets and managed investments. He succeeds So-Yon Sohn, who has moved to a new role in global markets and investor sales within Citi. Bacon will continue to be based in Hong Kong.

Bacon was most recently the head of managed investments and advisory for Asia Pacific since 2010. Prior to Citi, he was the head of the hedge fund business with UBP in London and has also held roles with the Rothschild Family Office, JP Morgan Fleming Asset Management, Jardine Fleming Investment Management and Fleming Investment Management in London, Hong Kong and Luxembourg.

Proctor will relocate to Singapore in the coming months to take up his new role. Most recently, he served as the global market manager of the global client programme and a senior private banker in London. Proctor joined Citi in 2008 as a private banker and became the UK banker team leader for ultra-high net worth clients in 2012.

GWM Investment Management

Rob Hodgson has been appointed senior wealth manager for GWM IM, effective from 24 April. A chartered financial planner and fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, Hodgson has been tasked with expanding the business across Europe.

He spent nearly 10 years at Lloyds Private Banking in their high net worth division. His most recent role was at Westpac in Australia, where he was a senior private banker. To GWM IM, Hodgson brings with him extensive experience in complex tax planning and investment management for high and ultra-high net worth individuals.

Brewin Dolphin

Mark Miles has been promoted to head of office for the Jersey branch of UK discretionary wealth manager Brewin Dolphin. His appointment follows the retirement of Stuart Sangan, who led the Jersey-based team for 18 years.

In his new role, Miles will be responsible for the overall profitability and success of the office, building upon Brewin Dolphin’s 44-year history on the island. He joined Brewin Dolphin as a divisional director in 1995 and has been predominantly involved in the discretionary managed side of the business, running bespoke asset managed portfolios for private clients, trusts and institutions.

Coutts

Coutts has revealed a shake-up of its senior executive team to sharpen its focus on investment management.

Mohammad Kamal Syed, formerly managing director at the private bank, will step up to become head of global markets responsible for the delivery of discretionary portfolios and mandates and will also join the firm’s board, subject to governance approval.

He will continue to oversee the strategic solutions team working with ultra-high net worth clients and will remain chairman of the investment committee responsible for all key investment decisions.

Camilla Stowell, head of Coutts’ private office, will also take on an expanded role as head of wealth and investment management responsible for leading the firm’s portfolio management, investment platform, investment delivery and wealth structuring teams.

Pimco

Pimco has promoted Michael Thompson to head of Asia ex Japan, effective immediately. Thompson, who was previously head of Singapore, will relocate to Hong Kong in the coming months.

He takes over the role from Kimberley Stafford who held the role on an interim basis. She retains her role as Pimco’s head of Asia Pacific, with Thompson reporting to her. Thompson first joined Pimco’s London office in 2006, serving as head of European third-party distribution.

Schroders

Schroders has strengthened its fixed income team with the hire of Jean-Christophe Alario who joins as a quantitative analyst. He will report to Paul Grainger, head of global multi-sector fixed income, and focus on developing a variety of models and tools to support the team’s investment process.

Alario brings with him over 10 years’ experience in asset management. Prior to joining Schroders, he was a senior investment risk manager at Pictet Asset Management. He has previously held roles at Rogge Global Partners, Primergy Capital Partners LLP and RAB Capital.

In addition, Marcus Jennings has joined the fixed income team in a newly created role as a strategist, responsible for providing in-depth analysis of global markets and economies. He reports to Bob Jolly, head of global macro strategy.

LGT Vestra

LGT Vestra has appointed Maeve Colley-Russell, a senior wealth management professional, to its private office to meet a growing need for advice and services that are suited to ultra-high net worth individuals.

At LGT Vestra’s Private Office, she will be advising UHNW private clients on all aspects of their wealth, including wealth structuring, personal investing and wealth succession. Colley-Russell joins from Coutts Private Office and brings with her over 25 years’ wealth management experience.

Robeco

Juan Carlos Briones has been appointed consultant relations director of international asset manager Robeco, with immediate effect. He will be based in the firm’s London office and report to Peter Walsh, global head of consultant relations and head of Robeco UK.

Briones previously worked at Pimco where he served as senior vice president of the firm’s consultant relations group for over six years. With 16 years of investment and financial services experience, he has developed strong ties with key global and UK research and field consultants.

Principal Global Investors

Principal has opened an office in Zurich, and appointed Martin Bloch as country head of Switzerland. He has been tasked with building on the firm’s European presence as a multi-boutique investment player.

In this role, Bloch will be responsible for building relationships with financial intermediaries and institutional investors. He brings with him almost three decades’ experience in the asset management industry and joins from Robecco / RobecoSAM, where he served as country manager, head of sales in Switzerland.

Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association

After 12 years at the PLSA, and over 10 years as its chief executive, Joanne Segars will be leaving to pursue a portfolio career.

She will remain in post until the end of June, completing some projects currently in train, continuing to act as the association’s ambassador to the wider world. Julian Mund will continue to assume executive duties until a permanent successor is identified.
