People Moves: CII, STM Group, Brown Shipley

Professional body confirms CEO’s departure date, while financial services group names CFO successor

Chartered Insurance Institute

Chief executive Sian Fisher is stepping down next year after more than six years at the helm of the CII. Her departure date is confirmed as 31 March 2022.

Her five-year term would have finished at the end of 2020 but she offered to extend her tenure following the impact of covid and arrival of a new CII chair in July 2020.

STM Group

Nicole Coll has been named chief financial officer of STM Group, replacing Therese Neish whose departure was announced in February after 18 years at the firm.

Coll takes up her role with effect from 1 October, with Neish remaining with the business until the end of October to facilitate an orderly handover.

Coll was most recently chief financial officer of Bank and Clients, having previously served as chief financial accountant at the Bank of England.

Brown Shipley

Fabio Rinaldi has been named business developer – financial intermediaries (FIM) UK at Brown Shipley, a Quintet Private Bank. Based in London, he brings 30 years’ financial services and wealth management experiences.

He spent 25 years at UBS Wealth Management, where he was most recently UK team head of the global FIM business.

Tilney Smith & Williamson

The wealth management and professional services group has appointed Will Matthewman as an investment manager based in its Exeter office.

He joins Tilney Smith & Williamson from Charley Stanley, where he has worked since 2014.

Nucleus

It has been confirmed that Nucleus chief risk officer Martin Ettles will take on the role across the combined Nucleus and James Hay platform group.

He joined Nucleus, which was acquired by James Hay last month, after spending 20 years at Standard Life.

Invesco

The global asset manager has made eight hires over the past three months as it bolsters its ESG team.

Reporting to Catherine de Coninck-Lopez, Invesco’s global head of ESG, are:

  • Mayde Sykora (Atlanta): Senior ESG Analyst, Fixed Income
  • Mark Duffy (Boston): ESG Analyst
  • Alexander Chan (Hong Kong): Head of ESG Client Strategy, Asia Pacific
  • Sophie Conyngham Greene (London): Junior ESG Analyst
  • James Sieyes (London): Junior ESG Analyst
  • Conor Hartnett (London): ESG Client Strategies Manager
  • Maximilian Kufer (London): Head of ESG – Private Markets
  • Sudip Hazra (London): Director of ESG Research

Julius Baer Group

The Swiss wealth management group has hired Yvan Wicht to lead Julius Baer’s Middle East and Africa teams in Geneva.

Wicht most recently worked at Deutsche Bank, which he joined in 2011. His last position was global head of wealth investment advisory Middle East and Africa – also based in Geneva.

He will report to Regis Burger, sub-region head Middle East and Africa.

Kleinwort Hambros

The wealth manager has made several key hires in its senior private banking and wealth planning teams in London and Cambridge.

Tracey Beechey has joined the UK domestic team based in London. She is a chartered wealth manager and financial planner with experience in managing high net worth clients’ assets. She joined from HSBC Private Bank and reports to Andrew Costard, team leader, UK Domestic Private Banking.

Heather Sonnet and Dean Stewart join the Cambridge team, reporting to Mark Sinclair, head of the Cambridge office.

Sonnet most recently launched and developed the Cambridge office for Brewin Dolphin. Stewart has over 20 years’ experience in the private banking industry and joins from HSBC Private Bank, where he was responsible for private clients across the Midlands region.

Additionally, Nji Lorimer joins the senior wealth planning team in London and will report to Andrew Dixon, head of wealth planning.  Lorimer previously worked at London and Capital and Grant Thornton.

H2O Asset Management

Babak Abrar has joined the firm as chief sales and marketing officer from Natixis Investment Managers, of which H2O AM is an affiliate.

His appointment forms part of the firm’s strategy to accelerate the development of a department dedicated to investor relations.

Abrar will assume responsibility for the department, which is dedicated to distribution, communication, client servicing and marketing.

Bank Syz

The private banking arm of Syz Group has recruited Charles-Henry Monchau as chief investment officer. With effect from 1 October, he will lead both the discretionary portfolio management and advisory departments.

He joins from Flowbank where he was chief investment officer and chief commercial officer.
