Senior manager leaves life insurer after 11 years, as Dubai regulator names chief executive

Canada Life

Market development manager Neil Jones has left the insurance company after over 11 years.

He joined Canada Life UK as a technical project manager in 2010 and was then promoted to his latest role in 2017.

Dubai Financial Services Authority

Christopher Calabia will become the chief executive of the Dubai regulator, effective from 1 October 2021.

He will succeed outgoing boss Bryan Stirewalt.

Calabia joins from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where he served as a senior adviser leading the foundation’s work to promote regulations that enable digital financial inclusion.

Brooks Macdonald

The wealth manager has bolstered its UK regional offering with two senior hires.

Jennifer Christian will become a business development manager for the north-west region, while Natalie Tysoe will take on the role of investment director in the Edinburgh office.

Both Christian and Tysoe join from Schroders Personal Wealth, where they served as investment specialists.

RBC GAM

The global asset manager has hired Serene Sun as director of Asia client coverage.

She will be based in Hong Kong and be responsible for coverage of Asia ex-Japan regional clients.

Sun was most recently vice president of client business for Blackrock in Hong Kong.

Succession Wealth

Andrew Barker has been named director of proposition at the advice firm.

He will be responsible for enhancing the company’s proposition across platform, strategy, use of technology and its protection and mortgage offering.

Barker joins from Standard Life, where he was head of advice proposition and delivery for the digital retirement advice business.

Quilter Cheviot

The discretionary investment firm has expanded its business development team with two hires.

Marshall Docherty joins the Edinburgh office from Aberdeen Standard Investments, where he worked as a sales team manager.

Nick Lumb will join the Leeds office, and was most recently responsible for discretionary and advisory relationships at Franklin Templeton.

Affinity Private Wealth

The Jersey-based wealth firm has recruited Jon Proudfoot as associate director for investments.

He will head up the company’s investment research process alongside the daily management of the investment team.

Proudfoot previously worked at UBP Asset Management, where he served as equity hedge strategy.

Abrdn

Hannah Grove will become a non-executive director at the investment firm starting from 1 September 2021.

She will replace Melanie Gee wo will step down from the board at the end of her second three-year term on 31 October 2021, as she has been named chair of Grosvenor Britain and Ireland.

Grove retired in November 2020 after serving as chief marketing officer for State Street.

Old Mill

The financial advisory firm has recruited Lucy Bennet as head of office.

She will be leading the Yeovil branch alongside her role as client adviser.

Bennet has been at the firm for the past six years.
