Andrew Shepherd to retire

Brooks Macdonald

Chief executive Andrew Shepherd has announced he will retire from his role as group chief executive officer, after 22 years with the firm. Chief financial officer Andrea Montague will take on the role from 1 October 2024, subject to regulatory approval.

Montague, who is also executive director at Brooks Macdonald, joined the company in 2023. Prior to joining Brooks, she was group chief risk officer at Aviva. Montague has also held senior roles at Standard Life and Royal London Group.

Brooks Macdonald is now actively seeking a CFO to fill Montague’s current role.

Close Brothers

Chief investment officer Robert Alster has left the firm alongside head of bespoke Giles Marshall as part of a strategic restructure.

The company said in a statement that “these changes come as CBAM embarks on a new phase of strategic development”.

Close Brother CEO Eddy Reynolds added: “Since the beginning of 2024 we have been looking at how we can best organise our two mutually supportive propositions – wealth planning and bespoke investment management – ensuring we have cost effective management and an absolute focus on excellent outcomes for clients. Hence this restructure. Our mission is to be the best place in the UK for wealth professionals and their clients.”

Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management UK

The firm has appointed Samantha Gibson to the Newcastle team as a senior wealth planner.

She joins from Brewin Dolphin where she was a financial planner, assistant director.

Gibson has over 20 years’ experience in wealth planning and financial services, advises clients on a wide range of planning issues, helping private clients, corporations and trusts with complex wealth planning matters.

Specialising in providing bespoke solutions for pre and post-retirement planning, savings and estate planning, she also works with clients on long term care planning and safeguarding assets for future generations.

Rathbones

James Crossley, LGIM’s head of UK wholesale distribution, will join Rathbones as head of asset management distribution from September.

In Crossley’s new role, he will head up the activities of the Rathbones Asset Management distribution team. The hire forms part of Rathbones’ new distribution leadership structure, amid growth plans for RAM.

Crossley has spent six years at LGIM and, prior to this, spent 14 years at Jupiter Asset Management.

Legal & General Investment Management

The firm has promoted Ben Cherrington, head of strategic partnerships, to become its new head of UK wholesale.

Cherrington who will adopt the new role this month, has worked at LGIM since 2018. Starting as key account manager, he became head of strategic partnerships in 2020.

Prior to this, Cherrington spent eight-and-a-half years at M&G Investments, latterly as head of intermediary channels, APAC. He has also held roles at New Star Asset Management and Skandia.

JPMorgan Asset Management

Fund manager for the JPMorgan Claverhouse Investment trust William Meadon will exit after 28 years with the company.

Meadon is set to leave JPMAM in August after managing the trust since 2012. In July, the trust will be passed over to Callum Abbott who has managed Claverhouse alongside Meadon for the past six years. Katen Patel and Anthony Lynch, who currently oversee the JPM UK Equity Income fund, will also join as co-managers.
