Bank of England
The governor of the Bank of England Mark Carney has agreed to stay on in the role until January 2020.
Commenting on the extension to his appointment, the Canadian said he would work toward “a successful Brexit and an effective transition at the Bank of England”.
Carney will stay in post until after Brexit but before any transition period, if agreed, is completed.
The Oxford and Harvard educated economist began his career at Goldman Sachs before joining the Canadian Department of Finance. He served as governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 and 2013, when he was the youngest G20 central bank governor.
As governor of the the Bank of Canada, his decisions are credited with avoiding the worst of the 2008 financial crisis and he was persuaded to cross the Atlantic by then chancellor George Osborne in 2013.
Brown Shipley
Brown Shipley, has appointed Nish Patel as a lending specialist and Tony Conway as a client director to its international team
Patel, who joins from HSBC Private Bank, will work with the wider team of lending specialists to provide secured and unsecured loans to both existing and new clients.
Conway, who has over 30 years’ industry experience, specialises in the Middle East and North Africa market and will strengthen the international team’s expertise in those regions.
Prior to joining Brown Shipley, which is part of KBL European Private Bankers, Conway held positions at Credit Agricole, Julius Baer and UBS Wealth Management.
Close Brothers Asset Management
Close Brothers Asset Management (CBAM) has hired managing director Oliver Harvey to its HNW Bespoke investment management service.
Before joining CBAM, Harvey worked as an investment director at Rathbones, and prior to that, Fleming Private Asset Management where he started his career.
BNY Mellon Investment Management
BNY Mellon Investment Management (BNY Mellon IM) has named Shamik Dhar as chief economist, effective October 1, 2018.
In the newly created role, Dhar will be responsible for conducting proprietary research and analysis, in order to develop economic commentary. He will act as the primary spokesperson for BNY Mellon IM on matters relating to global macroeconomics, geopolitics and capital markets.
Dhar joins BNY Mellon IM from the UK government’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, where he was chief economist since September 2014. In this role, he led a team of 16 macro-economists and advised ministers, senior officials and ambassadors on the economic landscape and implications of foreign policy, including Brexit.
Kingsley Napley
Kingsley Napley has hired James Ward as a partner and head of its private client team.
Ward joins from Seddons, where he was head of the private wealth team.
Ward will head a team comprising 3 other partners and 4 associates at Kingsley Napley – including tax and trusts expert Jim Sawer and Court of Protection specialists Simon Hardy and Anita Gill.
Natixis
Natixis Investment Managers has launched Natixis Dynamic Solutions, which will bring together the firm’s diverse expertise in developing customised client investment solutions into a single offering of solutions capabilities within the firm’s multi-affiliate organization.
James Hughes, former global head of strategic client solutions for Aberdeen Standard Investments will lead the new business and report directly to chief executive Jean Raby.
Natixis Dynamic Solutions has been formed through the consolidation of Natixis Investment Managers’ European investment solutions capabilities into a centralized group that leverages the expertise of its former Portfolio Research & Consulting Group (PRCG) and the former Investment and Client Solutions (ICS) unit of Ostrum (an affiliate of Natixis Investment Managers).
Claire Martinetto, former project leader of the solutions initiative for Natixis Investment Managers, will serve as deputy head of the group.
Neuberger Berman
Neuberger Berman, has appointed a team of six to its European fixed income team from BNP Paribas Asset Management.
Based in Paris the team consists of five portfolio managers and one quantitative analyst.
The team is led by Patrick Barbe, who has 30 years of investment experience. At BNP Paribas, Barbe was the chief investment officer of Euro Sovereign & Aggregate Fixed Income. Joining Barbe are portfolio managers Yanick Loirat, Vito Cavaliere, Antonio Serpico, and Sergejs Prala, and quantitative analyst Leang You Tran. Four of the portfolio managers have worked closely together for over seven years.
Collas Crill
Offshore law firm Collas Crill has appointed partner Ian Montgomery as its new head of corporate, finance and funds in its British Virgin Islands office.
The appointment comes as the firm looks to drive its commercial activities forward in the region and build its BVI office presence following Hurricane Irma.
Montgomery was previously based in Collas Crill’s Jersey office, where he advised financial institutions, public and private businesses, individuals and funds on all aspects of commercial law from both a Jersey and BVI perspective.
