PEOPLE MOVES: Axa, Noah, Schroders

Axa Asia has appointed a regional chief risk officer, while Chinese wealth manager Noah has made changes to its senior executive team. A fund manager is to depart Schroders, with Legg Mason bolstering its international product team in Australia.

Axa

Annie Tay has joined Axa Asia as regional chief risk officer. She will oversee the firm’s overall risk management framework to ensure compliance and governance is maintained and managed at global, regional, and local levels.

Prior to joining Axa Asia in August 2016, Tay was director and chief executive of Cubic Risk Solutions, a risk and actuarial management consulting firm she founded in 2010, that provided executive, interim and change management services to multinational and private equity firms.

Noah

The Shanghai-based wealth manager has promoted chief financial officer Ching Tao to chief executive of Noah’s first US subsidiary.

Replacing Tao is Shang-yan Chuang who joined the firm in 2011 as a director of investment relations and corporate development from Bank of America Merrill Lynch. In 2012, he founded Noah’s Hong Kong office and served as executive director and chief executive until January 2016.

Both Tao and Chuang’s appointments are effective from 1 September.

Schroders

Gareth Isaac, co-manager of Schroders’ inflation-linked and strategic bond funds, is leaving the firm to pursue other opportunities. He has been with the firm since 2011.

Isaac has more than 18 years’ experience having previously held fund management roles at GLG Partners, Société Générale Asset Managers, Axa Investment Managers, and Newton Investment Management.

Legg Mason

Legg Mason has bolstered its international product team with the hire of John Besley as part of the group’s strategy to develop ‘next generation’ investment solutions. He has been appointed to the position of product management director Australia, to bolster the product strategy and development in the region.

He originally joined Legg Mason in June 2013 as client service and distribution support manager. Based in Legg Mason’s Melbourne office, Besley reports into head of international product, Jaspal Sagger, in London.

Dalton Strategic Partnership

Prince Wenceslas von Liechtenstein has been named chief executive of investment management firm Dalton Strategic Partnership. Having joined the firm in July, he will be responsible for leading the development of new products, identifying new markets, and increasing assets under management.

The nephew of the reigning sovereign, von Liechtenstein previously worked in the equity division of Goldman Sachs as well as managing director in two corporate financial advisory businesses.

Abu Dhabi Global Market

The International financial centre in Abu Dhabi has appointed Lord McGhie as a judge to the Abu Dhabi Global Market Courts presiding over cases in the small claims division of the Court of First Instance.

McGhie was appointed to the joint posts of chairman of the Scottish Land Court and president of the Land Tribunal for Scotland in 1996, where he remained until his retirement in 2012. Since 2012, he has been sitting as a part-time judge in the Inner House of the Court of Session – the Scottish civil appeal court.
