PEOPLE MOVES: Axa, Canada Life, Columbia Threadneedle

Insurer names managing director of retail and health, while life company hires sales director

Axa Insurance

Julien Callard has been promoted to managing director of retail and health in Singapore, effective immediately.

He has been with the Axa group since 2000 and has held the role of managing director for the retail business in the Lion City since November 2019.

In the combined role, Callard will be responsible for driving continued growth and expanding distribution.

Canada Life

The life insurer has recruited Nick Flynn as sales director for annuities.

He will be responsible for Canada Life’s bulk proposition, as well as individual sales and partnerships.

Flynn was previously at LEBC Group where he served as managing director of The Retirement Adviser.

Columbia Threadneedle Investments

The investment firm has expanded its presence in the Middle East with a senior hire.

Jack Harvey has become director of the region, based in the company’s Dubai office.

He will look after existing and future client relations in the Middle East.

Most recently, Harvey was a client relationship manager at Franklin Templeton, where he worked since 2014.

Aberdeen Standard Capital (ASC)

Barry Hardisty has joined ASC as head of international, based in Jersey.

He will be responsible for client and investment management in the Channel Island and the strategic direction of the international business.

Before starting at ASC, Hardisty worked as head of the portfolio team at Enhance Wealth Consultancy.

Phoenix Group

Group finance director and group director for Scotland Jim McConville will step down from his positions on 15 May 2020, after an eight-year tenure.

Current deputy group finance director Rakesh Thakrar will succeed him, subject to regulatory and shareholder approval.

Thakrar joined the firm in 2001 and has been McConville’s deputy since 2014.

HSBC Malta

The Maltase arm of the bank will see a change at the top.

Andrew Beane will take on the role of chief of staff and transformation, Europe, and Simon Vaughan Johnson will replace him as chief executive.

Beane has been at the helm in Malta since November 2015, while Johnson has been a senior risk manager at HSBC France.
