More changes at the UK insurer ahead of its business shake up, CIO steps down from investment manager

Aviva

Tom Stoddard will step down as chief financial officer and as a director of the global insurance firm from 30 June 2019.

Stoddard will remain with the group until 31 December 2019 to support an orderly transition.

Jason Windsor, currently chief financial officer of Aviva UK Insurance, will become interim chief financial officer on 1 July 2019.

Windsor joined Aviva in 2010 and was previously chief capital and investments officer.

This appointment is subject to regulatory approval.

This change comes just as the firm confirmed it is set to slash 1,800 jobs globally and split its UK insurance operation.

Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM)

The firm’s chief investment officer, Anton Eser, has left the role after 13 years at the business.

He is returning to South Africa for family reasons and has also acknowledged his desire to return to an investing role with a particular focus on social impact investing in Africa.

Sonja Laud will replace Eser as chief investment officer, subject to regulatory approval.

Laud joined LGIM in January 2019 as deputy chief investment officer.

She has more than 17 years’ experience in the asset management industry.

Quilter Cheviot

The investment management firm of Quilter has made a triple hire from Brooks Macdonald.

Jennifer Innes has joined Quilter Cheviot’s Edinburgh office as an investment manager and will initially focus her attention on the local financial adviser community.

She was previously at Brooks Macdonald for five years.

Helen Brien will be head of middle office and was previously head of investment management support for over ten years at Brooks Macdonald.

In addition, the firm has hired Monica Bungar as its first telephone account manager to the sales team.

Bungar will work alongside Quilter Cheviot’s London regional development managers, helping to identify and initiate new business opportunities within the financial adviser community.

Charles Stanley

The UK wealth manager has appointed Matthew Keen as intermediary sales manager covering the south east.

He joins from Scottish Widows, where he worked for nearly 10 years, most recently as regional business unit leading London and the south east.

In his new role, Keen reports to Steve Hill, head of intermediary sales.

Keen will be responsible for sourcing new discretionary portfolios for Charles Stanley from professional intermediaries across the south east, as well as delivering client service and relationship management to existing strategic partners.

Neuberger Berman

The employee-owned investment manager has hired Jose Cosio to lead intermediary client coverage across Emea and Latin America.

Cosio reports to Dik van Lomwel, who heads the Emea and Latin America region.

He joins from Alliance Bernstein, where he spent nine years in various senior business development roles, including most recently as managing director of global intermediaries for the UK, Mena and southern Europe.

T Rowe Price

The global asset manager has bolstered its UK intermediary team with the appointments of Marcus Gibbon and Stephen McCall.

Gibbon, who joins as head of discretionary sales for UK and Ireland, will be responsible for the group’s engagement with fund selectors and financial intermediaries.

He reports to John Yule, T Rowe Price’s head of UK and Ireland.

Before joining T. Rowe Price, Gibbon spent more than a decade in a similar position at Aberdeen Standard Investments.

McCall joins as a relationship manager covering Scotland, north east England and Northern Ireland.

Prior to T Rowe Price, he held roles at JPMorgan, F&C and Ignis Asset Management.

He reports to Matt Jenkins, T Rowe Price’s head of regional sales in the UK.

Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS)

Baroness Zahida Manzoor has been appointed as chair of the UK-based service.

She will take up the role on 2 August 2019, succeeding Sir Nicholas Montagu, who is stepping down after more than seven years in post.

Baroness Manzoor was appointed to the House of Lords in 2013, where she served as House of Lords government whip and minister between March 2018 and May 2019.

Before joining the Lords, Baroness Manzoor spent over 20 years at board level within large, complex organisations.

She served as The Legal Services Ombudsman for England and Wales and The Legal Services Complaints Commissioner.

UniCredit

The Italian banking group has hired Davide Lombardo as head of investment advisory and key clients within its wealth management business.

He will be based in Milan, reporting to Marco Bizzozero, chief executive of group wealth management at UniCredit.

Lombardo’s objective will be to improve the UniCredit Wealth Management service for the group’s key clients in all its core geographies, including Italy, Germany and Austria.

Before joining Unicredit, Lombardo worked at JP Morgan for 10 years, where he was managing director and head of the investor advisory team for the Swiss and European market, based in Geneva.

Bordier UK

The specialist investment manager has named George Moorey-Denham as intermediary partnership development manager.

Moorey-Denham previously worked for UBS Wealth Management, where he spent seven years in the strategic partnership team.

He will report to David Muncaster, director of sales and marketing.

London Wall Partners

The UK financial advisory firm has appointed Ian McCafferty as a member of and senior adviser to its investment committee.

McCafferty was a former external member of the Bank of England’s monetary policy committee and former chief economic adviser to the CBI.

Prior to those roles, he was head of macroeconomics at BP and chief international Economist at both NatWest Markets and Baring Securities.

Sanne

Malcolm Hassan has joined the firm as managing director of business development and marketing.

Based in its London office, Hassan will oversee business development alongside brand and market positioning across the private client service provider’s global platform.

Hassan joins from RBS, where he was responsible for building and growing its funds banking business.
