PEOPLE MOVES: AJ Bell, the CISI, Mirabaud AM, RLAM, Allfunds, Stonehage Fleming IM

The platform makes two appointments

AJ Bell

The platform has appointed Ryan Hughes as managing director of AJ Bell Investments, while Stephen Westgate joins as group corporate development director. Both will report to CEO Michael Summersgill. 

Having been made interim managing director in late 2023, Hughes has now been permanently appointed to the position and will join AJ Bell’s executive committee, subject to regulatory approval.

Hughes joined AJ Bell in 2016 and has played a leading role in the development and growth of AJ Bell’s investment proposition. 

Westgate’s previous role was at Deutsche Numis where he was managing director, head of financial institutions. The newly created role at AJ Bell will see him work closely with Summersgill and members of the executive committee to drive new strategic initiatives.

The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI)

The organisation has appointed Neil Atkinson as a new member of the CISI board.

Based in London, Atkinson has over 30 years of financial services experience.

He is currently is a managing director and global client executive responsible for Euroclear’s client relationships. 

Prior to this, he held senior executive positions in operations, product, strategy, sales and relationship management at BNY in London and Hong Kong and more recently with HSBC Markets & Securities Services. 

The CISI board of rirectors is comprised of representatives who are typically drawn from the financial services sector and meet four to five times a year.

Mirabaud Asset Management

Head of equities Anu Narula is set to exit the firm after 11 years, our sister publication Portfolio Adviser has learned.

A spokesperson for the firm said he will exit at the end of November to join the investment team of a superannuation fund.

Narula currently manages the $231m Mirabaud Sustainable Global Focus and $76m Sustainable Global Dividend funds.

Royal London Asset Management

The firm has promoted head of wholesale Phil Reid to the newly-created head of sales role.

He will oversee wholesale and institutional sales for the asset manager.

Reid joined the firm in 2016 after a decade at HSBC Global Asset Management.

Allfunds

The company has named Patrick Mattar as global head of exchange-traded products (ETP) distribution.

In the role, he will be responsible for leading the rollout of an ETP platform, expected to launch in 2025.

Mattar was previously global head of ETFs at Aberdeen Standard Investments, after a stint as managing director at iShares, BlackRock, where he spent nearly a decade.

Stonehage Fleming Investment Management

The firm has named Carolyn Bell as deputy portfolio manager on the firm’s flagship £3.8bn Global Best Ideas Equity fund.

In the new role, Bell will work with lead portfolio manager and head of global equity management Gerrit Smit to manage the strategy.

She joined Stonehage Fleming in April as a partner. Bell has 16 years’ industry experience, having previously been an investment manager at Aegon Asset Management, running a number of strategies covering US and global equities. She previously spent five years as an investment analyst at Baillie Gifford.
