PEOPLE MOVES: AJ Bell, Charles Stanley, Intertrust

AJ Bell has brought in a legal ringer ahead of its initial public offering, Charles Stanley has bolstered its Edinburgh office with three ex-Tilney people and Intertrust has appointed a director to support clients who need to defer bonus payments.

AJ Bell

Investment platform AJ Bell has appointed Laura Carstensen to its board as a non-executive director, as it prepares to list on the London Stock Exchange.

Carstensen is currently non-executive chairman of Park Group and a non-executive director of The Co-operative Bank where she chairs the values and ethics committee and is a member of the remuneration and risk committees.

Previously, she spent 20 years at law firm Slaughter and May where she was a partner and board member. She has also been deputy chairman of the Competition Commission and a commissioner of the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

Carstensen’s appointment adds significant expertise and experience to the AJ Bell board as it prepares for an IPO on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange towards the end of 2018 or early 2019, the company said.

Charles Stanley

Private client investment management firm Charles Stanley has hired three ex-Tilney people in a bid to boost its presence in Scotland.

John Redpath, Julie Crombie and Barry McGowan have been appointed as chartered financial planners in Charles Stanley’s Edinburgh office.

All three were previously at Towry, which became part of Tilney following its acquisition in 2016.

Redpath joins with 27 years’ experience having worked the majority of that time at Aviva, focusing on individual client financial planning needs.

Likewise, Crombie also joins with experience in financial planning and has worked for companies including Bradford & Bingley. She left Tilney in December 2017.

Meanwhile, McGowan began his career in 1974 with Scottish Widows before moving on to a broker consultant role in 1980. He then switched in to an IFA role in 1987 and becoming partner in his eponymous business in 1997, which was acquired by Towry in 2007.

McGowan left Tilney in January 2018.

Intertrust

Intertrust in Jersey has appointed Melissa McConnell to its performance & reward management team.

McConnell joins as a client director, heading up the deferred compensation team. She will manage a range of client portfolios, providing trustee and administration services to those clients that are required to defer their bonuses for regulatory or company specific reasons.

Clients include asset managers, private equity companies, hedge funds, private companies and large listed companies. In addition to this, McConnell will develop the team’s service offering further and undertake business development.

She brings with her 16 years’ experience in offshore trust administration and a broad range of knowledge in dealing with corporate and private client relationships.

She joins Intertrust from Dominion Fiduciary Services where she provided trustee and administration services for employee benefit trusts (EBTs), offshore pension plans, private trusts and companies.

Evestor

Manchester-based online financial advice platform evestor has appointed as lead agile project manager as part of a wider recruitment drive that will see the team double from 25 to 50 in the next 12 months.

Andy Graham will step into the role at evestor, bringing over a decade of project management experience to his new post. He previously worked at an online discounted book retailer, The Book People.

He will work across all areas of the business, particularly supporting the software development teams as customer demand increases.

RSM

Audit, tax and consulting firm RSM has promoted 11 people to partner across the UK, effective from 1 April 2018.

Across the firm’s advisory practice; Natalie Ord has become a corporate finance partner in London; Jamie Miller has been appointed as a restructuring advisory partner in Leeds; and Declan Mackin has become a partner in the economic consulting team based in Belfast.

Within the tax practice; Jo Webber and Simon Adams have been promoted to partner in the employer solutions team based in Bristol and London respectively; and Claire Spencer has been promoted to corporate tax partner in Manchester. In addition, Stella Cooper has become a partner in the accounting and business advisory team in Leeds.

There have also been four promotions in the firm’s audit faculty. Adam Krupski in Stoke; Hywel Pegler in Bristol; and Karen Musgrave and Nicky Warburton in Preston.
