Allan MacLeod will be based in London for the newly created role, and will report to Warren Tonkinson, head of global distribution.

MacLeod has 25 years’ experience in the asset management industry, including 21 years spent at Martin Currie, where he held a number of international sales and client services roles, including head of global distribution.

He became head of global accounts at Ignis Asset Management in 2012, where he spent two years building their business in the Middle East, Japan, Asia, Australia, and North America.

On the appointment, Tonkinson said: “[MacLeod] will now play a leading role in helping us expand our share of the global financial institutions sector, as well as helping us to achieve our goal of expanding into selected markets to support its global base, through asset management and distribution capabilities based in our chosen international markets.”

Earlier this month, Old Mutual announced that it is to scrap the current minimum charge on its platform from 1 January.

The £8.33 per month minimum charge is presently levied against anyone investing less than £20,000.
