The New York University (NYU) school of professional studies is set to launch a master’s degree in financial planning in 2022 with the application process now open.
The programme will be offered by the school’s division of programmes in business and will include behavioural finance and financial analytics modules.
The university said that financial planning firms “often find that, while technical skills are important, their ideal candidate is someone who can meet with clients, communicate effectively, and make recommendations”.
“To move into more senior-level roles, financial planners need to demonstrate that they can work with clients, conduct a comprehensive analysis, and cultivate relationships”, it added.
A select group of students will be admitted for the initial cohort. The programme can be completed full-time or part-time.
Demand
Martin Ihrig, associate dean of the NYU division of programmes in business, said: “With millions of baby boomers retiring, as well as younger individuals seeking new and innovative ways to manage their finances, the demand for financial planners who are capable of offering counsel that is data-driven, behaviourally focused, and immediately applicable, is on the rise.
“This degree is specifically designed to meet the demand in a changing financial environment and is a great fit for recent graduates, as well as for those further along in their career.”
