The survey questioned would-be advisers who have recently completed deVere’s flagship graduate programme – an 18-month training course taught at their Malta office, said the company.

Graduates are then given the choice to attend an international deVere academy, before being relocated to one of deVere’s 70 offices worldwide once they start work.

Asked where they would like to start their career, 34% of graduates said New York, followed by 23% who said Dubai.

Hong Kong also proved popular, with 17% of respondents naming the Asian city-state while 13% chose Sydney.

Around 7% of graduates said they would like to work in Abu Dhabi, while the remainder of those surveyed (6%) listed cities such as Shanghai, Cape Town and London.

Common traits

“The order of the top five destinations changes with each group of grads we take on, but New York, Dubai, Hong Kong, Sydney and Abu Dhabi are typically in the top ten somewhere.

“There are some common traits amongst these cities, including that English is commonly spoken, they are politically and economically stable, there is a high level of internationally-minded high net worth individuals, and by relocating to these places one can usually expect comparatively high financial rewards,” said deVere Group chief executive Nigel Green said.
