Bonthron joined the Kames Global Equity Fund as an investment manager – a role he assumed last week – and will work with the company’s regional equity specialists to identify investment opportunities.

He reports to fund co-manager Pauline McPherson as Kames aims to outline its commitment to and boost the fund’s profile following the departure of fund manager Piers Hillier for LV= Asset Management in early November.

McPherson told Portfolio Adviser: “In the last two years the portfolio has had a significant turnaround in performance. What we want to do now, given the success of the fund, is expand its capabilities and the resources being afforded to it.

“Craig is being brought on board to beef up the analytical resources that we have. We have to make sure we are picking the best of the best in terms of companies, also expand to look at companies that other aren’t.”

Bonthron was formerly investment director of global equities at Scottish Widows Investment Partnership, a position he left in June.

Kames chief investment officer Stephen Jones added: “Craig brings 12 years of experience in global equities where he has been both fund manager and an analyst for a number of different strategies and geographies. This experience leaves him well placed to seek out and analyse good ideas for our global equity funds.”
