Leung, who is set to join in April next year and will also become deputy CEO Asia, will take over responsibilities for the region from Asia CEO Thomas Meier who has been managing the North Asia region since Andrea Benenati left the company in May this year to pursue a career in asset management.

Julius Baer was granted a branch licence in Hong Kong in November 2010 and has been building its presence in the region ever since – describing Hong Kong in previous news releases as its “second home market”.

Leung has worked in private banking in Asia for over 25 years, the last three of which were at Goldman Sachs where he was a partner and co-head of its private wealth management Asia ex-Japan division. Prior to this he worked at Citigroup for more than 20 years, most recently as CEO of global wealth management Asia.

In his new role Leung will lead the North Asia region as well as the Honk Kong branch, subject to regulatory approval, reporting directly to Meier.
