Abacus’ first Malta approved QROPS is a joint initiative with Carey Pensions & Benefits and is now waiting to be added to the UK’s HM Revenues & Customs list of recognised schemes.

Headquartered in the Isle of Man, Abacus was granted a full trust licence for its Maltese corporate arm, Abacus Corporate Services, by the MFSA in March last year.

Malta was described by Abacus then as an integral part of the group’s strategy to develop its business across global markets.

Abacus Corporate Services chief executive Garry Crossan said the retirement scheme licence would enable it to provide “a range of retirement solutions via our partner networks”.

Tim Bush, director at Guernsey headquartered Carey Group, said that in "the near future we will be able to offer a QROPS solution for the expatriate community in conjunction with Abacus Malta”.
